install virtual box via Chocolatey on my work PC
Why?
You are running Windows 10 Pro correct? Hyper-V is built in.
IIRC his boss was too cheap and bought home edition computers.
Yes - She bought the laptops as Windows 10 Home .
My work PC is still Windows 7.
I'm upgrading tonight after close. -

I'm upgrading tonight after close.Upgrading to what? If you want to install Windows # Pro it's a wipe and reload the last that I recall there was no way to switch versions.

Still not a reasonable option in all reality. . .

crazy. It's not crazy, there isn't core functionality between the revisions. Just backup your data so you can drop it back onto the reloaded system.

Working on that right now.

If the system already has a valid Windows 10 home license, reinstall to Windows 10 Home cleanly. Don't do an upgrade.
If it does not, then run the Windows 10 upgrade.
Don't bother with Pro. That is not your decision. That was your boss.

Yeah, I have 2 work devices. One is windows 10 home(laptop my boss bought for on call work) , the other is windows 7 home (PC given to me when I started)
What I'm actually thinking is I'll just run off of a laptop for all work purposes.
Bring my laptop in and take the PC out.
just run off of the laptop....Thoughts?

This isn't your call though, is it? Your boss clearly gave you two devices, so I would assume that they expect you to use them.
The other issue is, the licensing doesn't make sense, did you purchase Windows 10 Pro yourself or did the business purchase it to upgrade one of these devices?

It can be my call if I decide that's what I want to do.
I was given this when I got here, if I choose to use the Laptop that was pruchased for me to use as my everyday and oncall then that's my choice. The other issue is, the licensing doesn't make sense, did you purchase Windows 10 Pro yourself or did the business purchase it to upgrade one of these devices?
IDK where you're getting Windows 10 Pro at all, But all my devices are Home edition.
I think i said i was going to, but then decided that I wasn't paying for something for company use.

Closing down as it's home time

You said you were upgrading your computer (and backing up files) to most people in this community would think that means you're installing an upgraded version of an operating system.
Presumably to get of of crappy home edition windows.

Gotcha, then yeah why deal with managing multiple work-spaces unless there was a critical need for it.

Your laptop has HDMI, your monitor does not. I'm assuming your employer is just playing at being at business. It's insane to have monitors that are VGA only. . . that's at least 8 year old equipment.

Our PC's we sell to customers dont' have HDMI so why would we need HDMI?
