What Are You Doing Right Now

our sales man just came back and asked my boss if windows 10 needed to be 64 bit or 32 bit - i about spit out my coffee.

Doing some testing for potentially moving some Apache / PHP / MariaDB apps from CentOS 7 to Fedora 30. I keep reading good things about Fedora 30 around these parts, and since there are no specific requirements for an ancient OS, I figured it would be worth a look. They also require PHP 7, which comes OOB with Fedora 30, so I don't have to setup / rely upon 3rd party repositories. Simpler setup and more recent everything for the win!

@Dashrender Oh you mean Spiceworks and Mango? They haven't said anything yet.
OH another thing, they only bring up things I supposedly do wrong for weeks until our stupid little meeting for "Coaching"
I will be blunt... after reading that, I would be brushing off my resume and starting the job hunt again.

I consider this a "rule" for dropping CentOS. The idea and value of CentOS are exclusive to when you don't add third party repos. Once you do that, you are "recreating Fedora" ad hoc and not getting the value or purpose of CentOS, nor the value or purpose of Fedora. It's a middle ground that, to me, makes no sense, the worst of both, benefits of neither.

Bring THAT up for reverse coaching.
"Um, you aren't correcting me at the time so that I can learn, to cause more issues and slow my development? You are failing at coaching/management.... neither working to get better results immediately, nor to encourage personal growth."
-
@scottalanmiller I will definitely do this. It's absolutely ridiculous. We have these meetings every two weeks, we'll have our third one supposedly next week.
If they bring up another "mistake" I will absolutely say something. (one example of a mistake, I didn't hit reply all on an email...The email was regarding this script project I just wrapped up and I had a specific question only my boss could answer lol...It's just silliness. I look forward to someday climbing up not having to deal with this sort of micro management like my coworkers.) -
And I apologize to everyone for venting and veering this overall question/topic off the rails.
Right now I'm working on a new project I've been tasked with: Creating several scripts, one for setting default credentials for all IIS Sites, another for setting up application pools, another for websites, another for application setup, another for shared configuration.
Since this project is so simple, I'm thinking about creating a Powershell GUI for the scripts. (and also asking if I can just combine them all...Though I think I'll make them all separate as requested and then just make the one with the GUI)
So finally, after two weeks of literally doing nothing, I have work.

I feel your paint a bit. When I started at my current job, I did nothing but tinker for the first six months I was here. I didn't even get access to the helpdesk until after that time was over. It was bad... but I did get to learn PowerShell, so that was a plus.

No worries. This thread is a good place to come vent.
Also, they purposely made the decision to let threads take their own course. Lots of threads weave through topics like a quilt. Not ideal to find the thing you said 2 years ago I'll grant you, but also allows a better exchange of information.
-
@travisdh1 Oh ok good to know, I just didn't want to ruffle any feathers.

Also, this is the "junk closet" thread... If you want to be able to find something in two more years, just make a new thread for it and tag it as "RANT" or something.

It's rare that you'll ruffle any feathers around here... most of us are permanently ruffled....

No worries here as "off the rails" happens often but tends to bring out great conversation.
There is always this thread too.

Trying to finish up final music composition project.

Quiet weekend with the dog. Time to do some catch up on work. Maybe even play a video game.
-
Well, MailGun shut us off again for no reason. Only ever takes a ticket and a day to get it fixed, but holy crap what a waste of time and not being able to email out for a day is crazy annoying. So that got me authorized to move everyone to Zoho ASAP. Woo Hoo. So my quiet weekend just became a Zoho migration!

I use Zoho for my personal E-mail. LLC is still using Office 365 Business Essentials suite -- tough to beat that price point.

Is it? What features are you getting at what price? For a small business (tiny), where is the value?

Zimbra to Zoho email migration went well. From what I can tell, everything is working. Zoho is so nice to use.
