Ok, in all seriousness.... how many fucking times do you need to let a phone ring before you realize they are not at their desk????? 2 or 3 seems beyond plenty when the person would be within arm's length of the phone if they are at their desk. I keep hearing phones ring and ring and ring and ring and ring and then they fucking hang up and dial again and let it ring 5 more times.... What the actual fuck????? 3 rings, no answer = THEY HAVE STEPPED AWAY FROM THEIR FUCKING DESK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HANG UP THE FUCKING PHONE AND TRY AGAIN LATER!!!!!!!!!!!!! OR JUST STAND UP AND LOOK ACROSS THE 14 FUCKING FEET BETWEEN YOUR DESK AND THEIRS TO SEE IF YOU SEE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The "open office plan" needs to fuck off.
The other end of the call is just trying to waste time by continuing a useless task. They tried really, really hard to call!
But I know it's all interoffice calls because the person dialing REFUSES TO TAKE THEIR PHONE OFF SPEAKER. So I hear it dialing and ringing from both ends (with a 120-150ms delay between the 2). Trying to read something or type out an email... then it's like "listen up, audio brain!!! There's an audible delay happening, you need to use all brain resources to calculate how many milliseconds that is!!!!"
-
@RojoLoco oh the rage, I feel it across the interwebs.
-
Maybe you guys should hug @RojoLoco @DustinB3403

Open offices: Making people less productive and inducing rage since the cave dwelling days.

Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr when everyone's having a conservation around you by screaming across the office meanwhile you're on the phone with customers who are making comments about the conversation going on outside of your desk. and then You cant hear what the fuck people are saying on the phone because every one decided to yell to their buddy in the office.
I feel your pain man. -
@WrCombs Here it's mostly our people on speaker with our hayseed customers. Either way. I don't need to hear it. And yes, I have headphones, but I also need to be able to hear when people approach my desk. Sneaking up on me is a good way to lose a tooth or 3.

This. I hate it when people sneak up behind me.

Yeah, Only good thing was when they were " Training me" I could hear both sides of the conversation. Nothing else comes out of having speaker phone on all the Damn Time.

A mirror on your desk can help with this... though it can be distracting.

That doesn't fix the speaker phone issue. I'd constantly be looking at the mirror too to see if someone was actually coming to see me.

I feel like if I had a mirror, someone would see their own reflection and cause 6 more weeks of winter or something. That, or any approaching coworker would be able to see the derisive eye roll caused by their approach.

Hm.... Not sure about the six more weeks of winter... but the facial expressions would definitely get me in trouble.

Just got out of a meeting and found out my brilliant faculty put athletic training and physical education into the STEM pathway. They unanimously agreed to this too.
-
@jmoore what.. althetics isn't STEM related. COME ON!
-
@DustinB3403 Yeah. This just makes us look stupid. I'm really annoyed

Hey, they're educators, they'd know, I dare you to try and tell 'em they're wrong

What's amazing is that they don't care that they make themselves look so trivial. Like that is seriously embarrassing for an educator to think so little of themselves and their institution. That it makes other people look bad, meh, they don't likely care. But it is amazing that they want to face people at the bar and be laughed at (even if behind their backs), because they know that people are laughing at them with things like this.

@RojoLoco Nerf darts. I launch them at people who don't knock on the door (the just open and enter type).
Tally is at 6.
Word has spread quickly. I even had a staff member from another campus (a long way away) point out that she knocked and didn't need to be darted... probably should have anyway. -
