What Are You Doing Right Now

3-5 seconds to open on any server or desktop I've worked on; definitely not "instant" but not "slow" either.
That's what I call "really slow." Whcih might be a lot of the issue, I'd like it fast like CMD.EXE or Bash.

How do people use PowerShell? Just opening it takes so long I forget why I was opening it!
Like @dafyre - I don't seem to have this issue. But then again, I am on a Windows machine. Could it be a Linux issue (of sorts)?
It's FAR worse on Windows than on Linux. Like 10x longer, maybe?
Maybe Windows users are just used to things being so slow that they don't notice?
I'd wager you have something going on on that system. I click the Powershell icon and start typing.
Find me a system where it is fast. I've never seen PS come up quickly, never once.
My laptop and every server I connect to.
Can you video that? I've never seen it, literally, never. How are you getting it to be fast? Or do we have totally different definitions of fast?
Here Scott, I just did a screen capture for you. Where's a good place to upload it? Will IMGUR take mp4s?

I wrote that as FIGs by accident the first time.

Eh... Here's a youtube link. Make sure you set it for 1080P...https://youtu.be/bO91xJR6Xs8
You'll see I have no powershell processes running, and it opens in a second.

Do you have any scripts that run when you open PowerShell? I have a couple of small ones.

Definitely not. Not in the marjority of cases, anyway. Certainly might somewhere.

You honestly don't believe us that powershell can open quickly?
Dustin made a video for me. Over six seconds to open, which I think is extremely slow. Slow enough that you wonder if things are broken, slow enough that you start to forget why you were opening it. Definitely slow enough that it is not like other applications such as CMD.

Just busily creating aliases and DL on Zimbra

Hopefully a new toilet getting installed today.

Open and Type
and elevated permissions
@scottalanmiller you're insane.
-
Six seconds is "fast" for you? Compare to any other shell.
-
Like I said, maybe it is that Windows users have a different expectation of their machines and I'm just expecting it to be better than it often is.
-
@scottalanmiller watch the first video.
What are you counting that is 6 seconds? Me opening powershell?

I watched the video, you clicked on the app, and it wasn't usable for over six seconds.

Because I chose to click it, I could've easily just tapped enter and been typing away at powershell.
-
@dustinb3403 What does this mean? If you open powershell by hitting Enter it opens faster than clicking on taskbar?
-
@momurda said in What Are You Doing Right Now:

No, Scott is counting the seconds I took to move my cursor to the start menu to click on powershell as the "6 seconds it's unusable".
He isn't counting the time when the program is open and is usable.

I counted from teh time you clicked to open it, until the cursor was available. Six seconds, on teh nose.
