Definitely on SW.
Totally not in person, though.
yeah, people read into what I say a lot.
I think it's more people not being able to detach themselves form their ideas, which is what you are really attacking
i didn't even attack anything. he asked why something was broken, I showed where it was broken. I didn't even attack his ideas, just repeated back what he had told me.

I mean in a general sense, not specifically that thread.

He disappeared. Hopefully he either learned all he needed and ran off to study, or figured out that he is in WAY over his head.

No certs, no education (in IT), no experience, no posting on IT social media, no home lab, lots of time wasted on things that show he's not researched properly before jumping in, literally less than we use to choose high school kids!
and he's personally attacking you now
What else is new?
I think Scott is a very misunderstood guy on SW or maybe in general
Definitely on SW.
It takes folks a while to get used to you and realize that you're not personally attacking them.
Which indicates a total lack of professional interaction experience. Just not pandering and condescending often sets people off. Do they actually want me to just mock them?
They simply do not expect to feel like they've been thrown under the bus with their first interaction with you, lol.
I agree that we shouldn't pander to folks, nor should we be condescending towards them (their ideas). I just know that it seems to me that your responses in a deluge of posts tend to put people on the defensive rather than hearing what you're trying to say.
Edit: What @RojoLoco said below.

Once you restate someone's stupid ideas for them to see, they feel stupid and backpedal rapidly instead of going "oh, I see what you are saying..."

Found an old spreadsheet where I priced out sip.us. Looks like per-minute pricing for Twilip and Voip.ms is a better deal. Has anyone used sip.us and can speak of the quality of their service?
Not I.
I mean there are a ton of providers out there. I found a few solid ones, and until something brings a better deal to my attention, I am quite happy with the providers currently used.

Leave Windstream or leave Windstream and also replace the existing PBX and phones?
Those two different conversations.
-
@JaredBusch Leave Windstream and replace current PBX (Altigen) and phones. I ought to have been more clear.
-
Why do they have to be related? Personally I'd make them two separate projects. Sure they are related, but they are also separate.
-
@Dashrender [assuming you read this before the edit] It looks like I can configure another SIP provider in the Altigen system (assuming I have the necessary licensing to allow such a configuration). Ultimately I want to be free of Altigen.

Just talked to my realtor about selling our house in NYC.

@EddieJennings said in What Are You Doing Right Now:
@Dashrender Assuming I can configure this Altigen system to connect to a SIP provider, it could be two projects.
Why do you need that assumption? If you are forced to keep the Altigen, I'm guessing (I'll admit this is a pure guess) that you can get a SIP to PRI gateway device that could be put in place. Granted, you could have all kinds of issues with it, I have no clue...

@Dashrender Ha! I didn't edit quick enough

HA - cool.

I have a thread around here some where a few months ago where I looked at the cost of ripping out my Mitel system and replacing it with FreePBX and Yeahlink phones - it was more cost effective for a few reasons.
- current phone system is serving all needs
- replacing current system vs updating already completely paid for system was $12K more.
Even Scott agreed that because of the spent money already in place, that keeping my current system was likely the better move.
-
@Dashrender As far as two projects. It would be 1. Dump T1 and transition to SIP using existing hardware. 2. Replace hardware. The harder of the two projects will be dumping the T1.
