Makes me feel so old, thirty years for a movie that I saw in the theatre and feel, in general, to be a relatively modern movie! I mean I can still remember impatiently awaiting the sequels to be made and they were made in 1987!

Just spent half an hour with the left side of my jaw unhinged. Boy is that painful.

One call so far this morning, and escalated one case to Tier II. Outside of that, just talking to...someone very special in my life.

How? What? I don't think I've ever heard of or seen this.

I have had major TMJ problems since I was young. I once woke up with my jaw completely off and rolled over on it. That was hell. Generally, though, it's just the left side hinge and it slips out. I know how to put it back on (a doctor taught me because it feels like you are going to break your jaw) and normally it is a minor issue... it slips, it hurts, I replace it. One minute and it is all over and the pain is minor (now.) This morning was tough, though, it would not hook back on and I could not close my mouth for a bit there.

That... is amazing. I've never heard of an unhinged jaw unless there was trauma to it.... Glad you got it back in though.

Runs in my family. It's a relatively common joint problem. Basically you have some trauma likely that causes it to unhinge. Once it starts happening the ligaments that hold it in place because looser and it becomes easier to have it come out the next time. The TMJ is a hook joint, not like a ball and socket. So the ability to have it slip out is far higher than say a shoulder or an elbow. But it is also much easier to put in back.

I can not imagine how painful that would be.
Not that anyone would want surgery - but wouldn't it be possible to shorten the ligaments to 'tighten' them up?

As for the WAYDRN? - moving data from one laptop to another, hanging out on ML, trying to keep what little sanity I have left...

                              It's not working.

I've never been offered surgery as a solution and really, with as bad as it is, I would rather live with it, at least for now, than have surgery. It is not going to kill me and it is not going to "spread" or anything. It's not like cancer, it's just a bad joint. So worst case scenario and my jaw breaks and is stuck in some awful position... that's the worst of it. I might be unable to eat solid food again but hey, that's a diet plan right there. And the chances that I could do surgery not and not later if it gets worse is low. So waiting to see seems to be a good idea.

Or we could just wire your jaw shut and call it a day... 😛
                                  Jk..
