@gjacobse Form factor and how quiet the chassis is are large factors. One day I'll have a rack in my home but that day will not be soon.
Oh that's a conversation we can have. If you guys were making a network closet at home how would you cool it?
I would cool it ambiently and save money on my heating bills. Nothing says "I work in IT" like a server rack in your living room.
Or a 13U rack under your desk at home. Man, I gotta remember to check out Northeast Factory Direct, bet I could pickup one for cheap.
13U is almost the perfect height for an ottoman. Just saying.
I've been thinking of building one of these but my wife would kill me. At our next house I'm going to build a data closet.
Score 1 for bachelor life.
My wife works in IT. She's helped to cable the house before.
When I said I wanted to put a drop in every room, my wife said, "Isn't that what wireless is for?"
My wife and I had a discussion yesterday about needing to carrying Ethernet cabling with us when we travel because we want to improve speed and reliability for stuff in the house and not overload the wireless like we have been.
Bring two APs?
Still wifi and wifi sucks.
Fair... but it may be better then having to crowd around a switch.

The kind of havoc that someone could cause just from making a DIY 2.4GHz AV transmitter. I was thinking about trolling my friend and installing one behind his dresser just for giggles but he moved to Texas.

Those look like a sweet set man!
After I got wireless ones I can't go back. Probably not as nice a quality of audio, but worth it.

7.1 with headphones, huh? Which ear gets the 1.1 that aren't balanced?
One ear gets the sub and one ear gets the centre channel? Sounds like whoever made this just started making stuff up.

Everyone knows you can't sell a product without having marketing wankers spew nonsense all over the box.
It's like a rule or something, I swear.

Pretty much.

You know what I want from a set of heaphones? Stereo.
-
Why would anyone go through the effort of making headphones that specifically combine certain frequencies into monaural. that would suck.
-
That's a bummer. I just looked and saw that my Philips Uptown headphones that I paid $160 for about 3 - 4 years ago are now like $50-60

To make you feel off balance when the bass hits only on one side.

I'm not sure how it all works but I can tell you the sound quality is great. They have gaming profiles too like FPS footsteps which are crazy when I'm playing Rainbow Six Siege--a game heavily revolving around information of where your enemy is. I wish I knew more about what it's like to manage a gaming server. Ubisoft's servers are the absolute worst I've ever seen though. They're like the new EA.

Just bought like 30 games on Steam

was one of them R6 Siege? The gameplay is great but I can't speak for uplay or the servers. I assume it will be fixed at some point.
