What Are You Doing Right Now
-
One whose name might be interpreted as a streaming fart?
-
@scottalanmiller Windscream?
-
That's who I would fear. If you use them, you expect to be down and for them to lie about it.
-
@scottalanmiller Or to get someone on the phone at 2am who thinks you are a residential customer and keeps trying to tell you that you are not having a problem.
Exacerbated by the fact that the phone support guy was speaking in a heavy accent to a deaf man.
-
How does Windstream get people on their phone? Their phone lines are always down. Do they call from their cell phones or something?
-
@scottalanmiller I don't know about now... Fortunately, I haven't had to deal with them in several years now. But back then, it sounded like they were doing VOIP over dialup with a 300 baud modem.

Would that me a certain Rochester based ISP known for covering up these things?
No thankfully not. We use a local ISP (we are 4 hours from Rochester) who uses I think Level3 as the backbone.
-
that's a relief.

Haha... still down though... starting on 2 hours. Times like these I wish we had a backup provider.

What kind of line is it? Sounds like a leased line of some sort. Fiber? Copper?

Fiber.
-
@coliver You shouldn't have let them play with the back hoe so close to your office!

Fiber.
Dedicated, I'm assuming. Shared consumer fiber never seems to go down for that long.

It is their "business" fiber... but they run it off the same trunk as the house next door...

Is the house down too?

@scottalanmiller I think he said house was on a different ISP.

I can't even - this dude needs more help than I can offer. Am I right that he wants to do what I think he wants to do? Whole post made me question my sanity.

I don't need a post to question my sanity... I open one eye and do that...
But holy cow!.. that is over the top.... yet... there is much that is there that I wouldn't mind having... but more functional, less 'fun cool stuff we can make a button do'
My office is in the basement, so it would be nice to have visuals on the front door. Also a panel to monitor my network status and other things. heh.. Maybe even a feed from the quad-copter (I don't have) so I can remote control it from my desk and 'walk around' the house...

Yes.
