Anyone ever use Phone.com or similar products
-
Is this for like one or two users, or is this for a company? What kind of scale are you thinking of?

Hey All,
I was curious if anyone here has ever used Phone.com or a similar service for a small business phone system. I tested grasshopper.com and it was a bust. Grasshopper makes all calls to and from your cell phone (not a softphone app). It would be a great fit for a 1 man band business that wants the illusion of a larger company.
I know I could go with FreePBX but I was hoping that I can spin up quick and easy solution that doesn't need to be managed and monitored by myself.
Appreciate any feedback.
What features are you actually looking for? For a one man shop check out Google Voice, it has a ton of features and is easy to use. Doesn't have things like extensions but it does have hosted voicemail and transcriptions.
-
@scottalanmiller - It's for a 3 person office that is managing a 3 apartment buildings. They want to be able to make calls to and from without to give out their cell phones. The other requirement is to have different auto attendant messages based off of business hours and after hours.
Again I know I can throw together a FreePBX solution for them, I was just looking for something that looked quick and easy that they can self manage.
-
Google voice would be the best option for this I think. If self manage is the need.
-
I had mentioned Google Voice originally but there is not an option to set schedules - like afterhours. I agree it's a great product. I use it personally but it falls short for business use.
-
Really they should just pay someone to manage a hosted system for them. Freepbx will do what they want.
-
@Minion-Queen - I agree with you. I suggested doing this for them originally but the $$$ seems to be an issue.
-
When a client is picky about their solution. I give them 3 options, pricing for said options and all that each include. They pick what they want.
It's the whole do you want Cheap, Working or Cheap??

FreePBX is quick and easy. What they can self manage, that I can't speak to. But define "self manage", they can call NTG to make changes. Any secretary or receptionist can do that. It's fully managed so no internal tech skills needed.

What about someone like RingCentral that charges per user?
-
+1 for FreePBX .. it's popular, and has a strong community ..
If you're looking for options, other than FreePBX, have you looked @ XiVO ? It's been around for quite sometime now ..
-
What about other common options?
I'm looking for the exact same thing to replace an aging Avaya setup. Some of these players are coming up:8x8
ooma
RingCentral
3CX
1-VoIP -
Create a VoIP.ms account and set everything up there. it can all be done with time conditions and IVRs.
-
The only monthly fee you will have is the DID and usage.
-
For the calling from some number, VoIP.ms has callback similar to grasshopper or full DISA
-
or of course you can use a softphone on their smart phone for dialing direct.

1-VoIPThese players really depend on exactly what you are after. I find that most people do not really need to pay the premium to use these services.
Also you are mixing things in that list. 8x8 and RingCentral are your big name hosted phone service providers. 1-VoIP is an up and comer. Ooma, is crap.
3CX is a PBX like FreePBX, expect it runs on Windows. There are people hosting it and reselling it of course just like people host and resell FreePBX.

@guyinpv If you want to talk about soemthing for you, start a new thread so as not to derail this one any more than normal around here.

Sure. Well it's pretty much the same question, but since only FreePBX was mentioned, I wondered about other common players.

Deciding on a phone system is certainly a unique discussion for every company. It is never "the same" no matter how similar it sounds.
