        My Piwik server is monitoring 3 websites now (mine and 2 clients). The data is pretty much the same when you compare Google Analytics and Piwik. Of course Piwik is more customization and you can create your own dashboard which is plus. It also has some other nice features such as additional plugins, themes, and a few widgets Google Analytics doesn't have.

        What I like most about Piwik is being able to brand it and email daily reports. I don't have to login anywhere, I can scan an email really quick and see my stats. My clients are liking the information, too. They never had access to my analytics before. They weren't technical enough to understand logging in, etc. so Piwik is good for them.

        In summary, if you monitor one website, it probably isn't worth doing (unless you want automatic email reports which for me is a big plus!). If you are monitoring multiple sites, I highly recommend it.

          @Ambarishrh and @scottalanmiller

          After using piwik and google analytics side by side for a week or so piwik is really starting to grow on me. I find that it is easier to find data on piwik and I really like the customizable dashboard. I can see all the information I want right from the dashboard.

          The realtime visitor viewer is really nice. It not only shows realtime visitors like google, but it also shows past visits in order.

          The only gripe I have about piwik is the geo location isn't great. I generally only get the country from the console. I believe I can install a plugin to fix this. I just haven't had time yet.

            Question - is it all local to the host, or at least centralized to a host you control? i.e. no data going off to a third party like google?

            While I like many of the features that data provides Google the ability to provide, I really hate how slow so much of the web is because of the hundreds or thousands of redirects that a page often loads....

              Google should not be slowing you down, it sends out the data after the load and it is just sending telemetry data, not redirecting or loading anything.

                Update: I don't even use Google Analytics anymore. I like the Piwik reports much better.

                        I would like to set this up for my blog, is it good to keep both pwik and the blog on the same instance? I have a cloudways instance.

                          I have a separate server, but I am monitoring 6 websites at the moment and more are coming soon.

                          I am sure you could put it on the same instance because piwik doesn't use much resources. My server has 768MB of RAM and I haven't had any issues whatsoever.

                            I have been hosting my own server for months and then I found something out really cool today. If you have CPanel access on your website you can install it one click on your web sever 🙂
