@matteo-nunziati So, CentOS 7 , EXT4, LVM with compression turned on.
After all, I'm using consumer / smb desktop hardware. From what I've read, ZFS would require more resources than I have available if I wanted dedupe. My storage box will only have 8 GB RAM.

Generally go XFS but even ext4 is good. ZFS requires something like 1gb per raw tb of storage but mostrly for raid/compression. It raises up to 5gb per tb if you want dedup.
So 8gb=8tb of raw (pre raid) storage.
ZFS is nice byt you usually can go w/out its features in smb

The memory is for dedupe. It needs very little for compression and RAID. Those use CPU, but not RAM (much).

Let us know when the money isn't so tight 😉

Got back to this yesterday. Running on CentOS7 as a base (best of the default options the hosting provider has/had.) Easy management through the remote virt-manager and ssh.

@Tim_G turned me onto Kimchi as a secondary management interface as well. I've successfully installed wok and kimchi, but haven't opened the port yet, will get that done tonight after grabbing an ssl cert.

Also got the first vm uploaded last night, tomorrow looks to be a big day in my home lab.

I still love XenServer and XenOrchestra as my one of choice for now. But then i'm only running small Linux/Windows servers on it anyway like Zabbix, Radius, Unifi. Nothing full production like the DC or Dynamics/SQL

      Same here, but cautiously watching...

Can memory be shared also between VM?

That depends on the hypervisor. VMware ESXi can do this. It's an extremely limited feature and of little value. It's neat and good for things like VDI, typically, but not very useful for servers and there is a reason most platforms don't work towards adding it.

I concur. For most workloads, it's more a pain than a solution.

yes I just realize that my question is stupid for the RAM part 😄

Odds are you can create a new VM, and simply attach the disks to the VM (in the correct order) and be back up and running.

This is big news. Some will find it very good and cool, while others will be seriously freaked out by it. I'm curious to see what the actual payload will be for $2M per launch.

Combine this with SpaceX new ISP in space, our entire Internet might be floating above us soon!

@DustinB3403 said in Xen Orchestra - Community Edition - Installing with Yarn:

@travisdh1 what issue are you referring too? As far as I recall everything that is needed is included in the appropriate script install/upgrade

It's git, not the scripts. Since you need to have your git user information entered for it to work, would be good to have it added to the instructions.

I don't understand. Do you have to have a github account and be logged in to be able to download anything from github?

I can reach this without being logged in:
      https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Jarli01/xenorchestra_installer/master/xo_install.sh

No you don't have to actually have an account, it's a git requirement to put something in there though and we don't autofill that information in case someone wants to supply their account details.

Never tried it but since you are using thick instead of thin provision. Maybe you can shrink the disk using lvresize.

Don't know if it'll be worth the effort to try. Might just create a new drive (at the smaller scale) and copy the data over.
