You are entirely correct. The people like that it seems will not even consider anything else and would rather pay big license fees than learn other systems.

HW wise, the main argument for synology over buffalo here in Italy is if you use a NAS as a primary file server: no Terastation 5000 has redundant powersupply, nor easy maintainance is allowed on site. If power suppl. blows: byebye data, you are KO for a couple of days.

synology is really well engineered. I'm thinking specifically at TS5400r vs rs815rp+

(also buffalo do not provides units populated with 8TB disks (not yet... hell 8TB in a single disk, brrr))

OBS is pretty much the industry standard. If you want, you could take its code and BE the official support for it. If your company does not want to do that, you could do it yourself. Or hire any third party to do that.

Correct, but they don't support the product as usable. They require that part of it be unsupported. Wouldn't that taint the whole? It is their requirement alone that determines that it cannot be supported. They alone are responsible for it being unsupported. They could use different components or make their own but choose to make their software an addendum to something that is unsupported.

Verizon closing down a number of call centers... as if their customer service wasn't already terrible enough. One of the call centers is apparently in Rochester, NY. You're job market just got even worse 😞

They will probably open a new one. In Romania. Or even worse, in Egypt. Seen that before 😞

This is true. Had a Romanian guy try to install some remote control software on my family's computers back in the mid 90s. Software was in Romanian. That was the last time I let anybody near a computer that was mine and left hem alone, unsupervised.

You might be doing it wrong. The basic/free version is very limited, from what we saw. What are you having issues with?

Oh sorry I'm not trialing that backup software yet.

I'm using the built in tools from the application vendor to try and restore a .BAK into a clean installation.

Did you every get clarification on this? I suspect this is needed for the delta backup.

Yes, it uses the snapshots to make the backups. That's what I figured it was doing, but since Dustin didn't see it I thought maybe something was wrong.

We resolved it in another thread, I can't remember which one at this point.
