You can use an RDP client if you want for Windows users.

I've read that - I need to figure how how that works.

We have some customers using them, but we don't use them internally AFAIK.

spending so much time waiting for ScreenConnect to finally be able to load its device list. We spend just as much time waiting for SC's list to stop flashing from its load problems as it

      How many clients?
      What list?
SC is very fast in my experience.

2,000 clients and navigation and opening are fairly slow.

Have you used session filtering and subgroup expressions to keep any given window at a reasonable level?

We have thousands of clients sorted into hundreds of sub folders [for lack of a better word]. Our largest folder is 332 clients and it is loaded before I can get my finger off the mouse button.

Would prefer 15" screen and a numeric keypad... /sigh..

      Found this one. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-CB715-1W-P4Y6-Chromebook-4417U-Chrome/dp/B07W996BQ5

Anyone have a comment on it?

Only 32GB, but it is supposed to be only for browsing and ScreenConnect.

32GB is PLENTY. I don't even need the 16GB that I have. And 8GB of RAM, that's a monster of a Chromebook. Should be way, way fast enough. Just really expensive is all.

Mostly it is the form factor, I think, 15” with the numeric keypad

True, the extra size brings up the price quite quickly.

Less to that than I thought there would be.

It's surprisingly simple and basic. It's really just passing one port to another, and using SSL. About the most basic setup you can have.

@dbeato no, just an online file by file virus scanner?

No, (although it should be for another thread) it gives you information about the file, file hash. or URL in question. Example below is the Itarian Remote Control application Executable:
      2019-04-23_0039.png

It compares the has of the file to multiple AV and Technology companies to see if the hash has been flagged as malicious or not or if it is questionable.

How is that useful? The executable is rebuilt on every install for every group that it auto links to. that makes a hash useless.

That might be true for ConnectWise but not all Executables create a new hash everytime.

And in those unrelated cases, lots of things flagging the would be more meaningful.

They just bought LogRhythm, where I worked, this summer, and then did layoffs. I left as it wrecked the culture. I'm now at Ping Identity which is safely post-acquisition 🙂

      Did HP dump Sonicwall?

I didn't know that HP bought Sonicwall. I knew about Dell.

They are on neither, Sonicwall doesn't belong to Dell like since 2016...

Just upgraded to 6.9 and had the same error. Fedora 29 base.

Reran the upgrade with the export and it worked without error.

rolled back and reran it or just ran the upgrader over the last not so great upgrade?

Just ran over it. Same as I did the prior time also.

      A

+1 on ScreenConnect being awesome. Here are my top five:

allows support to remote in to a client user's machine in under five seconds can configure users as support agents with limited rights such that they can only log in to their own computer. Handy for those who occasionally need to remote their computer, either from home or elsewhere. Android and iPhone/Pad apps. customizable to your company look/feel including colors & logos ad-hoc remote sessions with emailed invitations for systems that do not have a client installed

The version I use requires a small client (<2 MB) installed on the controlling machine, though all access is through a web browser.

Could it be that they are not focusing on supporting self hosted options since it generates so little revenue for them?

If this is their goal, they've screwed the pooch on marketing. Informing customers that they aren't able to maintain their software and that it has security issues is the exact opposite thing that you do if you want to convince them to moved to a completely opaque system and "just trust" that they will keep your systems safe.

If this is their goal, they are doing exactly the opposite of what would be smart about it. If they wanted to move customers in this direction, they should make customers happy and move them this way, instead of pushing on premises sales and not provided good support.

So installing iced tea should be fine.

I've worked with lots of live sessions without persistence, and never had an issue installing additional software. Granted your limited to RAM as your total storage and system operation, and any additional software installed goes away on power off/reboot. It's odd that you're having trouble installing something unless it's requiring lots of large dependencies.

Your game plan is sound. Maybe they'll learn the joys of good backups?
