      That is awesome!

Thank you. This post was actually a bit late. I was posting another article and went to link to this one and realized that I had not posted it yet! So a little behind, but still great info.

I talked to a couple of the Colocation America employees at MangoCon. They are pretty much across the street from Google.

I'M LOOKING IN THEIR WINDOW RIGHT NOW.

      Are you using google goggles?

      No, I don't use outdated technology, @RojoLoco.

Great job @scottalanmiller and welcome aboard!

      Hope you enjoyed the experience!

Now if you want to play with it, I recommend you to use our CLI (http://docs.openio.io/cli-reference) or you can deploy our S3/Swift implementation (https://github.com/open-io/oio-sds/wiki/Install-Guide---OpenIO-Swift-S3-gateway).

Feel free to send me some feedbacks, I'm here to help!

      Guillaume.

      V

Yep, implemented the same, for a majority of our clients... it's quick n easy to deploy, and manage .. This, along with Thin-clients, has been a winning combo for us .. . works like a charm every time ..

Going a bit off-topic - Earlier, this year , we were contacted by a vendor, pushing these really really dirt cheap China-made thin-clients (They go by the name Thnder-X) ... So, for $18 a pop (only if you buy a minimum of 50 Units), it offers : -

      Arm Cortex 1.8ghz CPU
      1GB RAM
      512MB on-board Flash
      100/1000 Network Port
      3 USB ports (2xUSB 2.0, 1x USB 3)
1 HDMI Port + 1 VGA Port support upto 1920x1080 / 32 bit colour depth / Dual Display
      Audio Port.
      7.5W Power consumption
      Windows CE

We were rather skeptical at first, so the vendor gave us a unit to demo ... We're using it on a daily basis for around a month.. Worked well for most basic office tasks (Documents, Spreadsheets, Emails, Browsing, Accounting etc) ... Videos didn't do too well, but still, not as bad as we were expecting ..

The only catch is that it comes with a 6 month replacement warranty...

We bought around 10 units, and gifted 4 to a client ... at $18/unit, I don't mind gifting these to 20 MangoLassi users ... you pay for your own shipping ... hehehe

Anyway, the client has been using these in a production environment (on the above setup), for over 6 months, and they've been pretty happy with it, so far ..

Hope you guys get a "challenge accepted" soon!

I'm probably going to be looking starting the beginning of the year, and @scale will be on my watch-list when the time comes.

I just mentioned this concept in a post elsewhere earlier today, in fact. This is an extension of the YAGNI Principle that is commonly known in software engineering circles but is often overlooked in IT ones.

@dafyre said in Installing Scale Tools on Windows Server Core from Command Line:

I'm unfamiliar with the Server Core setup... but can't you install these drivers as part of the Windows installation process?

Storage yes, but I'm unaware of a simple way during a stock install to include other drivers. The storage ones are requested, and necessary, during the install. Otherwise the installation location does not show up (unless you don't use VirtIO block devices.) You can definitely add the tools into an image, and there is probably a way to include Ethernet devices ahead of time, but I'm not used to the installation process to know where it happens.

I just select all 3 of the INF files and go... It's always installed everything for me, lol... Just point it at the folder for the right OS and 32 or 64 bit... (Note: This is the way I did it in Scale v4.3... I've not had a chance to use their newer stuff yet.

At what stage are you selecting them?

During the install process... the same place where you go when you're picking the storage drivers.

I rarely do modifications at that stage. Still, handy to have a simple option because a lot of people will get the install done and find that there is no networking and need to know what to do at that point. ๐Ÿ™‚

@scottalanmiller Yeah, I was using "Brain Drain" in the more general sense of departure of expertise for any reason, not just poaching, although that can be a common cause.

They did this for the sole reason that this was the only way to continue providing their solutions based on the legacy vendors and their lock out and lack of access.

Not sure where this information came from.
PernixData, SanDiskโ€™s Flashsoft, and ScaleIO have all used kernel modules with vSphere...

The reason these vendors use VSA's is a combination of factors, largest of which writing kernel code is hard...
