Never heard of ownCloud but tried watching some of the features videos

https://owncloud.org/features/

and whoever made them sounds like a 14 year old boy going through puberty. Just can't keep watching.

At the core, ownCloud is basically a self hosted DropBox.

I use it at multiple clients and use it personally.

Hmmm guess I'll have to try it out. I like the idea of staying off the grid with my files. What's your beef against having your own hosted email server?

It's the all in one that he doesn't like. Same basic reasoning as to why Windows SBS was so horrible.

Eh? I though you, @scottalanmiller didn't like self hosted email because it is often way to expensive for someone to host themselves compared to what they get service wise going with something like Rackspace ($1 Spiceworks price, $2 normal people price + $1/user for activesync, or $4 for O365 email only).

That's correct. What makes you say that as if I said something contrary?

Only that you mentioned the "it's the all in one that he doesn't like" when talking about email being added to Owncloud.

That may be one person's desire, but it seems more pressing to push on the issue of almost never self hosting email if possible.

Maybe, but that wasnt what I was answering 🙂

oh, what did I miss?

I was answering why he didn't like having the email on the same server as other, non-email items.
