Someone looking at this thread had a hard time figuring out how to open the registry editor after booting to CLI mode from the 2008 R2 media. from the command line, type regedit and hit enter, it will load.

And I have a feeling the software is crap... that or I'm just doing this wrong..

You might be doing it wrong. The basic/free version is very limited, from what we saw. What are you having issues with?

Oh sorry I'm not trialing that backup software yet.

I'm using the built in tools from the application vendor to try and restore a .BAK into a clean installation.

      Oh, I see.

I created a shared mailbox and then I manually added the contacts (there are only 14 of them) to it. This makes the contacts visible to any user with access to the shared mailbox. However, I also wanted to used these "shared" contacts in some distribution groups, which doesn't appear to be possible. 😞

One wrinkle you should be aware of (this needs to be fixed in our web UI!) -- if you change the ZT-managed range from /24 to /23 or /22 you will also need to change it on all the devices. We should add a feature to renumber automatically since right now it's tedious.

In case anyone else runs across this same issue, I got this resolved with a simple command:

      dracut --regenerate-all -f && grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

After doing this, everything booted up properly.

I then installed hyperv-daemons, rebooted, and everything works great.

@olivier FWIW, I just retested on the latest next-release with the same results. If I disconnect / reconnect the server from within XO, the "ghost" VM is now gone.

I'd say that is a good bit of information to have, but who is going to be moving PBX VM's midday? 😛

For me it was good to know that it works that smoothly, not because I plan to ever move one during the day. But because if I HAVE to move one during the day, I will be confident that it will work.

You did notice I up-voted your post? I was just messing with ya. Yeah, that was a valuable test, for sure.

Good way to think of it. Clean install is a little extra work today in exchange for a "known" or nearly known environment. An in place upgrade means carrying risk with you, maybe a little, but some that might bite you later.

Or maybe the next IT guy, just leave the headaches for him 😉

Sorry for the confusion- its a development server, but i still need to make sure that these are updated with minimal downtime. I am trying to push the AD changes to some other time at least wait for the dev team to complete the tasks in hand, but not very sure if they will stop it just for us

Darn. I got it over to Hyper-V but it just goes to automatic repair and won't boot to windows. I guess I should have removed VMware Tools first I forgot. Hopefully that's the only issue.

I think that that is becoming less and less true. Quirky environments are becoming less and less the norm. The need to install locally is rapidly going away. There are still things that get installed locally but the variety and commonality is dropping at a prodigious pace and the isolation of programs is getting to be quite good.

@NetworkNerd the p2v for this is nice... just remember to check off a box if you're looking to use hyper-v on 2012... The downside though is that you might get a bloated VM because you can't move some of the blocks from the end of the vm to the front. Had that happen to me on one drive that was a 160gb vm using only 40gb. used the tool and was left with a 120gb vm... turned out that there were 'unmovable files' at the end of the vm image...

If you can you might consider just doing a direct migration from the MSP Exchange to Office 365 if that is your end goal by using a service like MigrationWiz that will be the intermediary and allow you to transfer server to cloud in one step.

      http://www.bittitan.com/migrationwiz

      Just a another thought
