Just verifying that this log entry tells us that a human hit the power button on the server? This is a log entry in the iDrac.

I don't think so. Warm reset is a reset, like the reset button or alt+ctrl+del.

If you press the power button you get a shutdown / power down but not reset, because after power off it will not start again.

If you have another Dell server available maybe you can verify.

Power button press = Graceful Shutdown
Power button press and hold = Power Off

The IPMI from SuperMicro has a web interface where you can do user maintenance for ipmi, remote control of hosts, record video(for recording other people's access to this system i guess), from there you can set Serial over Lan options. Here is the base screenshot

It does use java for some things still. There are also functions here i have no clue what they are. No idea what RAKP Protocol Setting is, but it is there.
Here is a nice feature, it shows how much power your host is using. It changes every few seconds.

I have not needed to use the iDRAC console in a couple of years now, and I had not realized that I still had to have f'n java installed in order to use it. WTF....

Pretty much the same for every kind of remote console, be it on an IBM, Dell or SuperMicro server or on an Aten IP KVM. PITA, big, nasty PITA.

How many of us have a VM on our workstation just for this? I know I do, and it's hard to get much smaller than we are and still need any IT.

Yup, using a VM for this. Yet another system to maintain.

I have a machine or VM (depending on client) running Veeam already so I drop java on that via chocolatey.

I think that you are probably stuck making an in-person appearance if your colo facility does not offer a KVM hook up for you.

Offered, but if I spin up a new asterisk instance on this new server and migrate my settings, I can can turn off the old one and will need to go on site to reconfigure those drives and install server 2012 data center on it anyway. So I will just do it all at the same time.
