Trying anything I can think of, this part looks promising to maybe be the issue...

I've seen DB2 in use, we had so many machines with it holding customer information.

I was young then, and the memories have stayed with me.

      The horror, the horror..

Then the company bought out another company which also had DB2 on some old Unix V knock off and some weird flat file thing on some PDP-somethings and we had to interlink the services and slowly transition everyone over.

No amount of IT experience prepares you to be a developer. It's a different job, a different range of skills.

True that. You'll also run into many developers who can't do simple things like install software or configure IP settings on their computer, etc. Two very different fields.

I knew a DBA who we had to teach how to save a word document while she worked with us on some stuff.. and she was also the Database & Programming (C++, VB.NET, Java) professor at a local college

Sounds like someone who failed upwards into that position of DBA

That's insane. Luckily Oracle DB is rare in the SMB.

I tried adding open-files-limit=4096 in /etc/my.cnf and restart mysql. Then executed automysqlbackup again, this time got something else.

Errors reported during AutoMySQLBackup execution.. Backup failed
      Error log below..
-- Warning: Skipping the data of table mysql.event. Specify the --events option explicitly.
mysqldump: Got error: 1142: SELECT,LOCK TABL command denied to user 'root'@'localhost' for table 'cond_instances' when using LOCK TABLES

      Checking for fixes

... I don't see how just using some flashy marketing terms would actually get good talent.

      my point exactly! 🙂

Not really what companies using recruiters like that want. It's mostly a myth that people want to hire great talent. Most places want to hire cool sounding, middling talent.
