Yeah the RAID 10 is on HDD, due to cost effectiveness. Will check LVM since its baked in.

Did I understand correctly that it's a Java application? If so, how are you launching/running it? What CLI command you using?

Oh i know they use a whole file for those arguments, ill see if i can check that and get back to you, what I can recall currently is- xms 512 and -xmx 2028

Is that enough memory to start the java application? That means you are starting it with 512MB of RAM and giving it a max of 2028 MB.

you have something on I/O path going wrong ;(

What do you mean? Everything looks good and appears to be going smooth according to all monitoring. No errors or performance issues.

It's been doing a very good job the past couple years. I keep it fairly updated. So if something recent broke something on it, let me know and I'll hold off on updating.

Ended up revising my approach to the whole configuration. I bought an SM951 128GB for the caching device and grabbed a pair of seagate 2TB drives and put them in an md raid 10. Random 4k inside one of the VMs averages between 12,000 and 20,000 write depending on queue depth. This seems low given that the SM951 is rated really high, can bcache be tuned to increase the dirty cache for random io?

I did manage to find a setting for sequential which pushed it up to 1GB/s.
