I have a predecessor of the Budstraps... a bit more sleek than these, but the clip is nicer here, much easier to use, and nothign to loose.

Logged in. Fixed in 5 seconds. Tested functionality to confirm success. Left. NO idea what was keeping that from happening when you tried to do it, but it gave me no issues.

Only thing I can think of is that Microsoft switched my account this morning, so this might be a new one. Only change that has been made in a very long time, maybe two years since MQ took over managing my account.

Yeah, it "magically" worked for me suddenly because MS made a change this morning... 😛

@DustinB3403 said in Amazon Does First Drone Delivery:

@stacksofplates A lot of the same issues persist. Tracking, negative thrust compensation, flight control.

You'd be better of strapping a gun to your drone, and manually flying it up to the other drone to just shoot it down with a remotely fired gun.

Which leads us back to the issues I pointed out originally.

Ok I'm not going to argue with you about this. If you attach another drone to a drone, it's not going to be able to carry it. Ever tried to fly a drone with a barely bent prop? They don't work, it would be nearly impossible to fly one with something attached to it that isn't carefully weighted in the center. And again, they have drones that can jam the signal and take control anyway.

Looking at the details page, here is a limitation depending on how you handle client accounts, or your own accounts.

What are the Lightsail service limits?
You can currently create up to 20 Lightsail instances, 5 static IPs, and 3 DNS domain zones in a Lightsail account.

But this is pretty cool. Ability to manage traffic before it hits your VPS:

Can I manage firewall settings for my instance?
      .
You can control the data traffic for your instances by using the Lightsail firewall. From the Lightsail console, you can set rules about which ports of your instance are publicly accessible for different types of traffic.

@Dashrender said in Amazon Echo vs Amazon Dot vs Google Home:

Considering the complete and utter lack of security in almost anything that actually allows remote control (i.e. JB and his cameras that demand UPNP open ports for the world - thank you NO) I currently refuse to use any of that stuff.

That said, I do have an Amazon Echo - after hearing Scott say how cool they are - and now I just sit back and wonder why. Sure I have it play Amazon music on it's crappy speaker (ok a dot could fix that) 1 time a month on average, I ask it the weather about 2 times a month on average... Otherwise I'm constantly annoyed, almost nightly by it saying "I'm sorry Dave I didn't understand the question I heard" while watching a show where no one said Alexia.

I guess my wife and I have asked it a question here or there, but it fails to know 9 out of 10 times and we fall back to google to get the answer.

That is the other thing I do like about the Google Home vs the Amazon equipment. Google seems to be much better at answering general questions, and you can ask it follow-up questions, something the Amazon Echo/Dot is lacking. Also, even if Google hasn't fully integrated all their services with it yet, I have zero doubts they will in the future. I'm leaning more towards the Home at this point, tbh.

I shared this with my parent company and they did an evaluation, but found that its not really useful for them. Initial feedback was " the application supports files only - no other objects (list items, etc.)"

Anyone checked this already and is this the case?

      Nice.

What's your take on this java utility?

If I recall previous discussions, you're completely fine with server side Java things, it's client side that are horrible.

Considering this is an admin tool, is this good or bad that it requires Java?

      Admin Tool = Client Side

So for me, I think it's a bit of crap there. As an admin tool I'd find it one step better than if it was for "generic" users. But in this role, it is still for an end user, just a power user (me.) And I think that any use of client side Java is rather bad. Not the end of the world, but not good. This isn't a new utility, so we can excuse the choice more than we could with a new one. But I'm certainly not planning to deploy it. There has to be better options.

I feel exactly the same way. Was mainly wondering if you did too - and well, you do 😉

I am referring to the following:

AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate
AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional
      AWS Certified Developer - Associate
AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate
AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional

Which one of these would fit the bill better for my career?

Solutions Architect is not what you have done in the past and not where you are looking at being currently. So those are more for a change in career direction more than anything.

The Developer is not at all what you do, so that is out.

DevOps, likewise, would be a major career change. Not a bad one, but it's a very different role and would be a long term transition.

SysOps Admin would be the logical starting point as it leverages where you have been and where you have been thinking of going.

For all of them, Associate is the starting point, you would do that before considering the Professional level.

Apparently a whole chunk of Amazon cloud stuff wasn't working over the weekend. Maybe that's still impacting things?

That would be my guess as well assuming the service in question is hosted within the US East region. Their status page says it's all good now, but I bet they still have some kinks to work out.
