Facebook's HHVM JIT (Just in Time) Compiler for PHP code does wonders for improving performance, even compared to speedy PHP 7. But HHVM offers a lot of improvements in performance that are not being leveraged by applications because Facebook needs developers to change how applications are written to take advantage of some of the features offered by HHVM.
