@thecreativeone91 You can still get the SpicyUEB version which allows agents, and the other 'original' free.

I'm more concerned that it sounds like there is no more agent for the free version.

Exactly this is really stripped down even from the old free version if so. Unitrends Free will be much more limited.

@Dashrender Just "this" free version, as far as I'm aware the spicyUEB and NFR editions still provide everything they always have.

@thecreativeone91 This is giving people the ability to test out the new HTML5 interface and is still providing 1TB of FREE HyperV and VMware snapshots, if you were happy with the previous offering, it's still available 🙂

Well it is for my client, but it's not for me. I have 2 physical servers I still have to backup, and two VMWare hosts.

It's great that we can now install the UEB VM on the internal disk, and use an external NAS for the storage, but removing the ability to backup physical hosts completely - I don't get it.

I couldn't use the old versions because they required the UEB VM OS and backup storage to all be together, and since I don't have a decent speed NAS to run the UEB from, nor the internal storage on my VM host, I was left in the cold..

You can backup the old one to a NAS but by default you will have 250GB (I Believe) of storage locally as well.

OH, thanks, I never got that far. While I probably do have that kind of storage available (because I needed IOS, not space) that still seems like a waste. In that case do you know, was the data stored in the 250 GB locally first, then sent to the NAS?

I think it goes straight to the NAS but not sure, I have mine going to a NAS, but I can't say for certain it doesn't store locally first.

This is Unitrends Official response on 6.0 but the "Unitrends Free" Version will not work with ESXi unless it has an essentials licenses or greater now as it's is only agent less. Nor any physical servers.

Unitrends Community Edition is based on the latest and greatest engine we have for our backup software. vSphere 6.0 is supported with this release, especially during this beta program

As I have all Hyper-v hosts except one client on VMWare (and they have essentials) this is a good solutions for all places except the VMWare and that is only because they have more than 1TB of data.

I assume that the 1TB is total.
I have ~800GB making a single full backup of all guests. I would fill up the remaining 200GB pretty quick with the daily incrementals.

Nope, the 1TB is your max protected source data size. You can attach as much storage as you like to allow for more retention.

I read the other thread on that a half hour after I posted this. so this looks like a good fit for them.

                                        They should really fix this...

                                        No SSL.

Update: I tried it on a licensed esxi box and it did not work very well, I'm testing it on Hyper-V now and it works great.

Also not that by default it is 500GB not 1TB. You have to create a forum account tied to the install to get the 1TB of data you can protect.

The interface is a million times better than the old UEB. Unfortunately, the Unitrends twitter feed is embeded and I haven't found a way to disable it yet. The HTML5 interface does not work in IE or Project Spartan, not that I plan on using it in either. It works fine in chrome.

It seems a bit too much like the Spiceworks model.

Give away a free app but make it compulsory to join the community/get adverts.

I'll try the product in a lab but I'm a bit wary of it.
