Backup Solution for Client

Yes. Unitrends will do anything they have an agent for, which is basically everything under the sun.

Veeam will now also be a valid solution since they have added Endpoint Backup.

Will the free edition of either Veeam or Unitrends work is that for VMs only?

The downside to the free Veeam Backup and Replication product if that you cannot schedule VM backups. you have to manually create Veeam Zips of the instances.
Veeam Enpoint Recovery is a stand alone (and free) product. On install, it makes you create a recovery ISO for the system it is installed on. Then after that you setup backups.

That makes sense. The free solution would be helpful to demonstrate the product, though.

@IRJ IIRC, the Veeam Endpoint will allow you to back up to a network share, and it does work as a scheduled backup.
I'm not sure if it should be used in "production" environments or not, but I've got the Veeam Endpoint Backup running on my office machine for testing. It seems to work rather nicely. (Office machine is Server 2012R2).

I would use Unitrends for that enviroment. They can use the free version and backup all there stuff on a schedule.

It's good for client machines backups but it doesn't have central management at least on it's own.

I'm a bit late, but Unitrends biggest play is that they specialize in mixed VM and physical. They offer more platform support than anyone I know. VMware, HyperV, XenServer and every OS you can imagine.

None really. It's only 8 machines and only online support. I'm not sure if the free spiceworks edition supports appaware or not.

I got asked to evaluate a bunch of these products, tried it in a lab, on a couple of client sites, it was horrible. Bit weary of the "Spiceworks is FREE" fans. -

Unitrends, never used it personally so no comment.

Veeam is great for a virtual environment, if you have the licensing for it. However, for a mixed environment, I would say get the free UEB from Spiceworks to deploy for now, and as they grow, maybe look into getting an actual Unitrends appliance.

I've heard lots of great things about Unitrends, although I've never used it. What virtualization technology are you running? VMWare/Hyper-V/Xen, etc.?

The free 30-day trial UEB from Unitrends will protect virtual and physical, but the "Spicy UEB" (an offer made to those who are Spiceworks account holders), will only protect virtual, and only up to 8 sockets. Last I knew the generic "free UEB" was discontinued... back in October?
