That's not a good sign when IBM doesn't have the resources necessary to conduct interviews reliably.

Is this direct IBM or someone else? I can't believe that they couldn't get you the required stuffs for interview!

Exactly, this is extremely fishy. What makes you confident that this was really IBM? This is not the kind of thing that IBM would want to happen in an interview as it makes them look extremely bad. And it is not the kind of problem that IBM would be likely to have. Something seems very, very wrong here.

@Lakshmana where did you attend the interview in Bangalore?

Yeah, no foreign companies run anything in India. They may have the name somewhere on there, but it's actually a local company with the usual kickbacks, grift, and corruption that I've come to know from the subcontinent. The big red V has VDSI, a division that had no accountability with regards to the rest of big red V, which made chastising their shittastic work very hard because they didn't report to anyone, even the CEO. AT&T completely outsourced (and pulled it back from them because they sucked so bad) and others just partner with Tata and all the others.
When it comes to employment in India, nothing is what it seems.

I know that IBM and Citigroup actually hire there, real staff in real facilities. True employees working directly for the parent company. But most firms, especially lower end ones that don't do direct business there that are just looking for cheap labour, don't really hire there. This does not sound like real IBM at all.

But much like Canada broadcasters, there has to be a majority local ownership. So 51% of the company is owned by some goons. I know IBM has been looking hard at not going to India, preferring to deal with Brazil, Indonesia, and the Philippines. And dealing with the lackadaisical work ethic of Brazilians versus India, that's some real reasons to wonder about the subcontinent.
Given the shady shit going on with this, I wouldn't be surprised it was India Box Machines.

I've had fake company stuff happen in the US too. It's not limited to India or the region. I've had fake businesses pretend to even be Bank of America and rent space inside a BoA building to create a pretty solid illusion!

Actually we've looked into some of this and both India and the Philippines are 100% no-go business sites for us. No consideration at all. Their shady business setup stuff means that you don't want anything to do with them. Sadly, not shady but due to horrible business setups, Canada ends up falling into that boat.
Heading south, rather than east, this year to attempt to offload work in that direction. So many highly educated, non-corrupt countries with eager workforces ready to work at US levels without the shady problems. No need to do business with regions that are run by corruption.

In the hosting sphere, Costa Rica is a great place for lots of stuff. I used to have gambling servers located there, worked real well for us.
Most of Latin America is good for technology, although full of corrupt shit going on.. Mexico has giant contact centers in most of the major cities, just stay out of Mexico City. Panama has a highly educated workforce. Brazil, despite being lazy as shit, are able to do a lot of things. Argentina has had a brain drain, but is still pretty educated versus the rest of the area.
If you go east, but not past the Middle East, you can get folks in Europe. Big Red V outsourced a metric fuckton of work to Hungary, because VDSI sucked so bad. Mind you, the caliber of employee is not up to western Europe standards, but you can find a diamond in the rough. Any further east and you wind up getting corruption in the gubmint.
Big thing about going to other countries, which AT&T learned the hard way, it's not a 1:1 ratio of employee. AT&T hired lots of replacements for US based reps. When you get up to a 20:1 on the load, it's a bad thing. It's like having a bunch of Atom servers in a blade chassis versus a single Xeon 2U unit. Yeah, the Atoms are cheaper, you can throw more at it, and can spin them up pretty fast. But a single Xeon box could outperform all of them without breaking a sweat. For single thread, very specialized workloads, they are great. For general and deeper workloads, you need something better.

At a certain large bank we were seeing 8:1, roughly, differences between UK staff and US staff. You needed a team of UK admins to cover the same load as the US staff. And the US staff worked in lower cost locations (everything is cheaper than London.)
When the UK worries about having more than ~30 servers per admin and the US worries about having more than ~300, you know things are wildly different.

That's odd. Especially if it wasn't something officially setup with the college.
-
@Lakshmana Again, are you sure this is IBM??
How did you get the interview call. By mail/call. if by mail, does their id says @ibm?
This for sure doesn't seems to be IBM to me, must be a vacancy in that college in the IT dept. and I don't think IBM does placement for other companies

Agreed, very odd. IBM itself has campuses all over India. They have no need to use a third party facility, especially in a key IT city. The only time that I would expect this would be if the interview was being done locally in a small place where IBM had no presence.

They did not use mail fifteen years ago! There is no way to know that it is really IBM with a letter. In the US they have made using the mail to defraud someone a huge crime, so the mail is reasonably safe (sort of.) But in India, the very fact that you got mail and not email should itself be a red flag making you instantly distrust it completely.
Have they included email information on how to contact them? If they have no, there is no way that IBM has anything to do with this.
