I have seen some really elaborate employment scams to get people unemployed, string them along and then hire them at a fraction of the promised rates once they are desperate.

Might be something like a credit report watch for you. We use things like the site below (only applies to Canadians) you pay them a small fee to make sure that anything done in your name is emailed (or whatever) to you for confirmation

Like I said before, you need to talk to people in India, not us. We are IT people, we are the wrong resource for foreign identity theft. You need someone local, maybe even an attorney.

It might not be a big deal there. Few countries have the lack of consumer protection that the US does.

Heck even with the Anthem data leak they will only cover me if it gets used during the next 24 months (from the date of the announcement) and will only cover a few grand of the damages at that.

They are going to try to get info about you. You already know that they want your data. Don't put yourself at additional risk.
