I would be annoyed by the collared shirt Nd slacks. But brushing their teeth and taking credit cards seem pretty basic.

I hate when cab drivers whine the whole ride to try to get a better tip.

Yeah. They often seem entitled in big cities.

How does that work? If someone's whining at me I'd have a tendency to give them a smaller tip.

Yeah, I understand the dressing up part (they aren't your Downton Abbey footman) but to be offended like this cabby said about having to brush his teeth, wear some deodorant or take a shower once in a while was laughable.

Well, the deodorant thing is culturally American, so I can understand why certain ethnic groups might take offense. That having been said, I much prefer to be in close quarters with people who smell like soap or deodorant, and not like people. I realize that makes me a snob and culturally insensitive.

The entire taxi industry is already over regulated, this is excessive to me. This is why the industry is so rock hard against the ride share apps.

Good point. It doesn't seem like these need to actually be regulations. Isn't that what company reviews are for? If the questionable cleanliness of a cabby concerns you, read reviews and choose a company with good ratings.

Can't always choose a cab company. Like at airports. They are considered a municipal service.

@scottalanmiller Cabs at the airport are regulated. They have to apply for and obtain stupidly priced permits. Again it is over regulation.

As someone who travels a lot, I think that it is a good thing. If you don't heavily regulate cabs you have a disaster for tourists. It's only by treating them as a part of the city's infrastructure like buses and light rail that you can provide a safe, reliable and trustworthy infrastructure.
