How To Get Your Service Provider Label
-
If you are new to the community you may be wondering why some people have labels that announce them as working for a service provider and some do not. Well the obvious answer is that some people work for service providers and others do not But that probably does not answer your question. If you are a service provider you are asking "how do I get one of those?"
The process is pretty easy. To get the label the MangoLassi mods needs to validate your account to make sure that you are a real service provider (within reason, it is not the most complicated process.) To start the no-cost process, just send a chat message to @Addie and request account confirmation. She will assist you in getting your account verified and the label added.
The labels are simply there to help service providers self-identify so that other users can figure out who they are and to make interactions in the community more obvious. This is not, and never will be, any cost associated with this service. At least no real cost, a consideration around a nominal charge of like $1 for a account validation verification would be considered if deeper validation was needed in the future. But at this time, even that is not a consideration. Just don't want to promise that we might not ever need to verify accounts in that way. But the goal is not to derive any money from verifications, only to identify who is who so that community members can trust that they know who is who reliably.
In the future we hope to have a means of providing a field that shows which service provider you are with. That is not on the roadmap at this time, however.

I am not around all day long so don't be surprised it it takes me 24 hours to respond to you. But please leave me a message here and I will get you all setup. Please leave me email contact information so that I can start on the verification process. THANKS

I know the nodeBB forum as labels for other groups. Is that something you will add to ML?

We are definitely looking to add vendor labels. Beyond that, there are no plans. The labels don't scale well beyond a few. We aren't sure how to handle it for people who might have several labels.

Would like to have one,.. but not being a provider... limited on options.. and trying to lay the ground work for a different line.... topic for another day..

Maybe we could have 4 basic groups like Networking, Windows Server, Linux/Unix, and Desktop Support?

As the bulk of people are generalists, wouldn't nearly everyone fall into all or all but one of those categories? What would having the label denote to people looking at a user?

Perhaps I can get a label for being a NodeBB rep

The newest version has user defined groups and such I looked at it on the nodebb forum. i can see how it can quickly be unweildy. But it can also be a useful thing for more than the current use.
A fine balance to walk.
