Can I go directly to v2.0.9-hotfix.2? Are the hotfix's cumulative?

      Yes and yes.

Tried to update this afternoon and it all went south.
        ER-x = 10.10.2.1

Rebooted ER-x first, confirmed all was well (I was updating my PC also), connected to ER-X GUI, Downloaded backup and uploaded 2.0.9 Hotifx 2.

It sat there and spun (GUI uploading file) for about 30 minutes and figure something went south.

Lost connection to GUI, could not ping, timed out trying to get to GUI. Seemed I had no choice but to unplug POE (using POE injector) and tried to reboot. No luck.

ETH0 (WAN) port, ETH2 (Netgear Switch) and ETH4 POE (UAP Lite) were lit.
I had no Internet but I could ping the Netgear switch and UAP Lite and DHCP is no longer working.

I then decided to try the Reset button but that is not working either. While ERX is on, used paperclip, held for 20+ seconds, no change, eth4 light did not blink or become solid and router did not reboot.

Unplug ERX, press Reset while plugging in POE, ETH4 would blink but the router would not reboot after that.

I could not ping either 192.168.1.1 or 10.10.2.1 and setting my IP to 10.10.2.88/192.168.1.5 if I was plugged into any ETH port or LAN port on POE injector.

        Anybody else run into this?
        Is the ER-X "Bricked?"

I went out and bought a cheap D-link to get me through as the wife needs to WFH. I will play with the ER-x tomorrow at work if anyone has any ideas.

@pmoncho I don't think it's bricked, but I seem to recall problems when going from the 1 series to 2... IIRC part of the problem might be that the button inside that pinhole for the paperclip reset is a bugger to actually hit and hold... I can't say with 100% certainty whether it was the ER-X or one of my dd-wrt projects that I ended up having to hold the paperclip / pinhole reset for something crazy like 5 minutes for things to play nice.

Thanks. I will try that today. I must have done that reset button 30+ times so far but will give it a try.

It probably is bricked. The same happened to my ER-X when firmware 2 came out. I got it booted eventually over serial cable, and if I remember correctly it displayed something about internal storage.

I noticed others have had the same issue in the past.

I just saw the serial connection setup. Did you just use the USB-TTL device to connect?

The part that bugs me is I had check the storage issue prior to upgrade. Had 58% free so I figured I would be ok.

yeah, that's not much when the firmware is 70 MB compressed.

I definitely know that now. lol If that is what did it. The other reports I read, before I did anything, user mentioned <40%. I decided to give it a shot. Oh well. Bought a cheap D-link at Microcenter yesterday to get us going. Glad I did as we are locked down with snow this morning in NE Ohio.

I'm thinking if you can get a console cable you should be able to recover this device.

There's mention of a tftp recovery option in the link below:

Don't know if it still applies but might be worth trying.

I was looking at similar posts. I think I will look into the USB-TTL device.

Some posts mention 3.3v and other mention +5v - Something tells me it matter but I am dumb in these matters.

wait - what? there's voltage concerns on a USB to terminal connection? Can't say I've ever seen that.

The ER-X doesn't have a console port so you have to open it up, use a USB-TTL to connect to the serial port PINs on the board.

Oh yeah - One of the reasons JB disliked this device!

Yep. Bummer. I found this on Amazon:
                                    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WX2DSVB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Someone already used it on an ER so hopefully it will work for me too.

There's mention of a tftp recovery option in the link below:

Don't know if it still applies but might be worth trying.

I have a USB cable (not the one you linked) that I use for ER-X recovery. Same process as ERL and such.

The part that bugs me is I had check the storage issue prior to upgrade. Had 58% free so I figured I would be ok.

At some point, Ubiquiti updated the firmware upgrade process of the ER-X to pre-delete the old version. I have no idea what "space" should be available, but I always deleted the backup firmware prior to upgrading until I was on the 2.X line.

This has been a known issue with the ER-X from day 1.

Glad I didn't get this issue when I upgraded to the latest version.

I have now updated my upgrade process. Backup config, confirm download of currently loaded firmware is available, reboot, delete backup firmware, update firmware.
