An external USB drive with SSD storage might be your best bet.
This is what I do with Clonezilla for device drive swaps. My usb 3 enclosure has a 1TB SSD in it.

We use Reflect Free and a USB external spinner. It should handle pulling from a NAS allow for centralized storage of images based on hardware type.

It's not windows based - but Clonzilla does what you want, and you can figure out the script/command line for it too.

Yes, I can't recall if you can have the image repo on the bootable media since it' been a while, but it's definitely an off-line option. When I was using it the USB sticks I could afford weren't big enough to hold an image so it was a USB to boot and an external HDD for the images.

They've released a Lite version so you don't need a server anymore, runs off a USB. I'm checking it out now.

AAHHH, yep, live, not lite. I downloaded the lite version and yep it wanted a servery type thing for the source images.
I'll try the LIVE version and see what happens.

I did find a nice & easy to use command based tool, that works very well.
Just checked its' price though, it's in euros and conversion puts it out of reach unfortunately.

I took a look at Clonezilla Live, it is nice, but takes me too far away from what I'm looking for, something that will boot up, let me run 1 command a walk away while the PC images.
I spent time with DISM, it works and does what I want, but it's a little slow, but I may have to put up with that.

Hell - the brand new HPs and dell both come with HPs and Dells built in shit that almost no one really needs plus they generally come with AV and other crap you don't want at purchase. and those things all come back when you do a refresh image inside windows.

Can't speak to HP, but with Dell, unless you get setup with their imaging program (you provide them with your desired stock image and it's $$$ from what I recall) they're sending you their stock OEM image with a significant amount of bloat-ware. In a corporate / enterprise setup consistency is king so it's normal that you want to reimage with something that's tested and known to play nice in your environment.

That's decades old procedures... having your IT department receive the device, reimage, configure, maintain images, and all the requirements that go along? That is a huge waste of resources.
Wouldn't you rather have a device sent directly from CDW to the end-user, without needing a special image, ready to go for the user and the work environment... managed, configured, secured, and compliant as part of the OOBE?

Who besides maybe MS devices come with zero bloatware? None I've ever seen. And yes I'm talking business class machines, not shit ass consumer junk.

Dell charges a bit more for imaging with your Intune AutoPilot profile but can be arranged and most Dell with Windows Professional and up licensing barely come with bloatware as far as I have been working with them.
