Been going between working on code projects, website updates, and just chilling watching some TV today. Pretty low key day.

Reading about NFS shares while waiting for a video to export.

Reading about NFS shares while waiting for a video to export.
What do you want to know about them?
They are the grand daddy of "mapped drives". Basically like SMB but faster and leaner.

Practicing the basic syntax of what's in
/etc/exports
. Learning the procedure of setting it up on a client and server. Seeing what permissions look like on files created on the share. This is the RHCSA objective about NFS: "Mount and unmount network file systems using NFS" I figured I'd got into a little more depth for my own learning.

I like NFS, it's so simple and solid.

I've got a huge cocktail here while I am working.

I confirmed what I read in some documentation. If you mount the share and create a file, the owner and group for the file will use the UID and GID of whatever user / group is on the client machine -- which is what I expected.

It gets real interesting when using NFSv4 compare to NFSv3.

Pretty sure we have another spammer prepping to go. They appear every hour or so tonight. I wonder what's driving all of the traffic this evening.
