How is this AJ Syndrome?
@scottalanmiller would state because you're making it sound as if this system is your only goal in life and that you have to fix it, or else you'll go mad.
It's just a problem I am working on. Anything else gathered from this is wrong. If my boss tells me to install a printer, i install it. If my boss tells me to try to diagnose a problem on a server, I do it. If he comes out and tells me to stop I will stop.
When am i just doing my job?
I get it, I would take the same stance with the addition of "boss this system is ancient, I can't get documentation anywhere. The best thing I can do at this time is to ask the recovery team to do their job and restore this system. Once that is done can I then investigate what may have happened"

I requested a file level restore to see if my hunch is correct. If that doesn't work then I will put that in. In the mean time I'm going to try to get approval to reinstall the module.

@wirestyle22 Is discovery of what happened more important than this system being operational?
-
@DustinB3403 If we restore it's going to take a long time. It's over MPLS to France. One file is nothing. I will test and if that doesnt immediatley resolve it, they will start the restore process.

....They don't care about us to the degree that we care about ourselves. ....
How is this AJ Syndrome? That line literally defines AJ Syndrome. You (or your boss or your location) has set a priority that doesn't match what the company dictates. The "owners" or CEO or whatever determine priority X, but you see Y as important and feel that something that the company doesn't see as important is important for your own reasons. It's a personal priority (or someone, maybe your boss) rather than a business one. Hence, AJ Syndrome.

The realm problem here is France demanding control but not offering 24/7 support. We are on every continent. Doesn't make sense.

Doens't need to make sense to you. That's AJS. Feeling that there are different priorities than set by the company management / owner.
You might be right from a profits standpoint, but that's up to them to determine.

So my situation doesn't change. I am still working on this issue.

Depends if you feel your direct boss or his boss is in charge

No, his boss is the person who he reports to. He's apparently been tasked with spending time on trying to find out what happened and to presumably document it. Rather than just to get the system up and running.
Unless his bosses boss came to @wirestyle22 and said "What are you doing, don't do that" should @wirestyle22 just stick with what he's been told to do. It sounds like this was a direct order.
"Drill a hold in that table." sort of thing.

Where else is the blood supposed to go when we sacrifice them?

This is a huge problem. How the heck are they using Europe as their singular backup location for US based servers? This is insanity.

Have you tried some of the things that we suggested? Like started Apache without the workload to make sure Apache itself is okay?

Apache without the workload
Not sure how I would achieve this. I must have missed this comment

You remove the conf file that points to whatever application you are trying to host.

Right I'm having trouble locating it. Been looking for awhile. I'm going to try to talk to one of the developers tomorrow when they are here
