ML Catgories Are Bad

@JaredBusch yes "category" ok.... because the organization of mangolassi is fucking shit. everything shows up on the main page and categories don't mean anything.
there isn't even a person behind this automatic spamming account, it's a script. probably written by an asshole like you.

There most certainly is a categories view. It is not even hard to find.
You can set your default view to whatever you want in your settings.

@batman if you go into a category....
https://mangolassi.it/category/14/self-promotion
And turn off "watching" it should remove those posts from your main page. Are you managing your categories or just leaving the "show all" default? I use the show all, but the categories should be well manageable to only get what you want.
We did a LOT of thought around how to set these up so that problems like you mention won't happen.

We are pretty anal about making sure that things go into the proper categories so that you only see what you have selected to see. We keep the categories low and clear so that this can actually work. A lot of sites go for a huge number of categories and it causes issues because something might make sense in multiple categories and you end up stuck subscribing to everything anyway. We separate out promotional posts, job postings, career stuff, platform stuff, IT stuff, "junk", etc. so that you can pick and choose things that don't overlap.
-
Example, this post is in "Category Issues"

He would obviously just rather be a whiny bitch, than learn how to use the platform. My money is on he never even went to his settings page.

I didn't know you could turn of categories either. It's not super obvious.
I would have guessed I could do it under "settings" but it's not there so.

It is under any given category's own page. Because some forums have like thousands of categories, putting it in settings would be a problem. For one like ours with so few, that could work, but the platform needs to be flexible.

I think @batman is thinking this is SpiteWorks and just wants to vent.
