A fibre link seems to have gone down between 2 buildings at a clients business.

No changes have been made, I just noticed that the WAPs in the building at the far end of the link where no longer on the network.

I've done all I can think of, the one thing I am unsure of is should I see a laser in both conductors of the fibre leads? I can definately see it one but not the other.

      Thanks for any help.

They are uni-directional so there is only a laser at one end per fiber.

Also don't look into them, you can get eye damage.

The poor mans way is to hold a patch cable up to a LED on one end and aim the other end at a piece of paper or something and see if you can see the light.

Fiber typically doesn't have issues. All the times I've been called in to check something like that out, it's because someone plugged something in to the other port of a dual personality port or something like that that made them think the fiber was down. Not saying a backhoe couldn't take one out, it just there are lots of other issues that can take a link down.

All sorted, the port in one of the switches had gone err-disabled so I just sorted that and we're off and running once more.

            Thanks for the help.

Fun fun, we deal with this in NY City with Cogent a lot...
