OSX Power Saving Settings

If you are like us, you don't want your user systems going to sleep every 10 minutes. Especially on UPDATE night.

Via ARD (if you want to make this change to multiple systems at once) or SSH individually you can make a few changes to the power settings on an Apple laptop with 3 short commands. These changes are specifically for when the device is connected to the charger only but could be adjusted for battery as well.

sudo pmset -c sleep 0
sudo pmset -c powernap 0
sudo pmset -c disksleep 0

The settings make these changes, in this order, and the order is required.

Disable sleep when connected to a charger
Disable powernap when connected to a charger
Disable disksleep when connected to a charger

There you have it, now your devices will remain awake, and accessible for update night. This doesn't affect locking of the screen or user account. And the user doesn't even have to be logged in. The system will be right there waiting for the user to login.

Does that also prevent it from sleeping when the lid is closed?

The lid closed is powernap
