The end-to-end encryption reinforced by blockchain is available as a developer preview in the new version of ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors.

      End-to-end encryption mode allows:

      • Encrypting files to store them locally or in the cloud.
      • Privately editing documents in the cloud.
      • Sharing encrypted documents for secure co-editing.

      Key strengths

      • Encryption on the client side.
      • Documents, including temporary files, are encrypted.
      • Encrypted inputs while collaborating on documents online.
      • Blockchain technology for reliable password storing and transferring.

      How to try

      • Install the latest version of ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors.
      • Open the application and go to the Settings.
      • Enable the 'Test end-to-end encryption' option.
      • Go to the End-to-end encryption tab on the left.
      • Enable the encryption mode.

Read more about how encryption works and how to co-edit documents in the encrypted mode in ONLYOFFICE.

We are testing the scheme, and we would love to hear your opinion

@hellonadya I like the idea of end-to-end encryption, but I wonder if blockchain is really the correct technical answer to the problem. It seems to me that tracking the chain would eventually create large bottlenecks and storage space problems. Do you have any documentation on how the blockchain encryption is implemented?

Haven't looked at it yet. I'm interested enough that I'll actually look at it when I get home tonight.

Quick point... it's based on Etherium.

I'll have to look at the details, was anything done to lower the chain growth over time and change tracking resource usage?

@travisdh1 sorry for late reply. we have everything explained on our website (as @scottalanmiller already said https://www.onlyoffice.com/onlyoffice-blockchain.aspx).

You can also have a look at this presentation https://onlyo.co/2D4DwaI

We do not expect storage space problems soon as we use the network for password storing and transferring only.

At the moment the network is for testing purposes only, but yes we are working hard to prevent issues that might occur. We also presented this technology at two IT conferences in Europe, and the majority of questions asked were about the network))

Please, bring us some feedback whether it is clear and comfortable to use, we are eager to hear that :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:

@hellonadya Thank you for replying. I've started reading up on it, but got sidetracked last night. Looking forward to actually trying it out.

It's great to have representatives actually responding in our community here!
