As expected, Guacamole doesn't like Deepin but this was my first test. I'm thinking I'm going to use Linux Mint but open to suggestions. Going to make a post abouut the nginx/SSL for Guacamole specifically to make sure it's correct.

Are you using plain VNC or RDP? XRDP just doesn't work with some desktop managers, Cinamon being the one that hasn't worked for me.

Guacamole should be installed on a server. Deepin is a desktop client, not really designed for server use. As a client, it should work fine.

Like Deepin, Mint is a desktop only tuned system. Look at Fedora, CentOS, Ubuntu, and Suse only for server use.

So got unitrends to spin up on my Hyper-V host but can't get a backup to run. Work on that tomorrow when I get back in.

Given up on Unitrends and Hyper-V. Now considering dumping Hyper-V and going back to either ESXi Free or using XCP-ng

It's as a client. I think part of it is the wallpaper. I had limited time last night but it didn't seem like I could turn it off via the normal settings. Have to figure out nginx/SSL for guac tonight anyway.

RDP. I do want to test everything though eventually. Fun little project.

                            Hyper-V and Veeam work great.

So does Hyper-V and Altaro I think it is.

I know you and I have had this conversation in the past, but why ESXi Free edition?

Literally every other type 1 hypervisor offers more for the same "free" cost so it shouldn't be a consideration as with the free edition you don't get any of the features that people must choose (and pay) VMware for.

Altaro works pretty well with Hyper-V.

@dustinb3403 I know. Was just throwing names around 🙂
Think XCP-NG is going to be the best option at the moment, with XenOrch.

@JaredBusch The only thing that puts me off Veeam is it needs a Windows Machine to install the software on. The host that needs backing up only runs Linux servers, like NGINX, SnipeIT, Zabbix etc so i don't want to "pay" for a windows license just for backups.

Was hoping to have a "appliance" type install and do agentless backups. Hence trying Unitrends

Altaro can be installed directly on the Hyper-V Server.

If the goal is a free backup solution and to use Hyper-V, why not veeam free using VeeamZip.

                                            Is agentless a set-in-stone requirement?
