Lots AJ this person will be working with their Development team as well as being a Support Engineer.

Ok, dang. I hate dev work at the coding level. I'm more of a developer when it comes to the concepts and planning level.

A B.S. or equivalent experience is also needed.

I removed my comments, hadn't realized that there were two threads.

I'm not interested in this job, but what qualifies as equivalent experience to a B.S.? 4+ years on the job?

Normally far less, but has to be real work in the right field. They was a four year CS degree, not IT or software engineering. I'm sure a four year software engineering job would be looked on fairly favourably, but CS is its own thing and they are not using the term incorrectly here. This is one of those rare jobs that actually wants a CS grad and not those fake CS programs that so many schools do these days. Actual CS.
With development, one of the best "alternatives" to a degree or lots of experience is a portfolio. Unlike IT, you can actually make one for yourself in software development.

The client is looking for someone with 5+ years experience with a great portfolio.
This client has many European educated members to their team and as such the educational items mean much different things than they do here in the US.

In the US, it is common for a four year software engineering graduate to not even be able to write code. There are literally programs in SE and even CS that outright lie about what their program is and just teach extremely basic IT instead of software development.

Interested... I meet all of the qualifications, however it's been a while since I steadily did anything in Java. I am not afraid of brushing up my skills though.
