Hopefully this goes the other way. Maybe they will have free private repos on Github now. As long as there is an import option on other services it doesn't really matter.

I have a feeling that GitHub usage and subscriptions will go up in spite of the wierdos leaving it just because Microsoft bought it.

I can't blame them. Embrace, extend, extinguish is still fresh in people's minds. Earning trust is a lot harder than losing it.

@stacksofplates Nokia as well. Think they paid about the same price too

Nokia was in bad shape before MS bought it. And the Nokia devices themselves are as good or better than before anyways. I'm not sure what everyone is referring to as how "MS ruined Nokia"... how?

@obsolesce MS bought their mobile division, then layed everybody off with in a year.

Looking at the Nokia phone line, it seems pretty booming to me. Not quite sure yet what is ruined regarding Nokia phones.

@obsolesce I never said MS ruined nokia, you seem to have inserted that into my statement.
I said they bought their mobile division then laid every nokia employee off within a year after abandoning mobile phones.

I'm pretty sure Microsoft isn't involved in Nokia anymore. They sold their mobile phone to HMD Global/Foxconn for $350 million after purchasing for $8 billion.

                      https://www.cnbc.com/2016/05/18/nokia-phones-are-back-after-microsoft-sells-mobile-assets-for-350-million-to-foxconn-hmd.html

Although from what I understand this was a Ballmer decision that Nadella didn't approve of before becoming CEO, and didn't see the point in putting more resources towards it when he took it over so they wrote it down. HMD is putting out phones like crazy though and keeping them mostly stock Android. They're looking pretty attractive.

GitLab’s high-end plans are now free for open source projects and schools

Gitlab is the big winner in all of this with people flocking to them. They were struggling with capacity today from all of the new projects.

They better not, as I had a planned migration for this weekend for the last 2 weeks.

Does help that you can host your own gitlab too.

A little, but I don't think people in that market are looking for that. That it is hosted is the principle value.

@obsolesce The only reason I’m not moving my projects to githhub is because I cannot get private repository without paying for it. Gitlab offers that.

Yeah that's why I have everything on GitLab as well.
