Windows Server GUI
-
How many of you still use the GUI when running windows servers? I'm getting ready to upgrade a few of our 2008 R2 servers to 2016 (a little late I know) and just thought it was funny to see the "Windows Desktop Experience" on the install.
-
I don't install it when installing my own, but mostly I support legacy systems that other people installed and left it on.
-
I don’t have any 2016 out there yet I don’t think outside my lab.
Everyone is on 2012 R2. No reason to buy new licensing just to get 2016.
Edit: yes 2012 R2 could be installed as Core only but it wasn’t as refined then.

last time I've installed a win server 2012R2 it was core. Not many win server installations by the way, and now I've changed job.
-
Personally I don’t, unless it’s a crappy software that requires a full desktop. Or some poor soul that needs a GUI.

We have Server 2016 and still has the GUI but we are still supporting as low as Server 2008 R2.

GUI is there is the majority of cases for me.
