Win10 won't highlight selected items in File Explorer
-
Yet another issue with my nightmare computer. This time - File Explore (Windows Explorer) won't highlight a selected item(s). This has been reported enough that there are several pages across the internet providing multiple ways to fix it. - restart explorer.exe
- full reboot - from admin command prompt shutdown /s /f /t 0
- Change power settings and disable fast boot
- Change background color of desktop (not the wallpaper itself, but the color) and reboot
- Toggle high contrast on/off/on
- Run sfc and chkdsk (with reboots)
In my case restarting explorer fixed the issue. I found one person who reported they could reproduce the problem remoting to or from this computer. This computer is frequently remoted into.

For the office, just use RedHat or Fedora.

I see this happen sometimes. It actually selects everythign but you cant actually see that it has. Luckily this has always gone away when i reboot.

No, but when a better solution isn't being used, it's bound to be asked why. Fedora has been proving 100% excellent, so why not, especially over something like Windows of your an Admin

Luckily this has always gone away when i reboot. In my case it was selecting only the one item being clicked on, as evidenced by the status bar at the bottom of the window. The weird thing for my user - the busy cursor came up when they double clicked on the item, but (in this case) Excel never opened. The busy cursor was still there when I arrived about 25 seconds later. I had the user check task manager - nothing was hung, the CPU was yawning at 10% usage, RAM was under 3 GB used (8 in the machine).
I had the user return to File Explorer, and try again, first try (at my request) - nothing, second try - it opened. The lack of opening makes me thing the user is was moving the mouse between clicks, though I can't prove that.
