Random Thread - Anything Goes

@scottalanmiller yeah just didn't know how to write it lol.
You call them VAR but they have people that know more about SQL than us . They only said nimble as they think that's the best fit for what we use. They are happy to sell us a Dell San, NetApp etc. More on this in another thread I think

You call them VAR ...
That's because a VAR is a binary thing. Either they are or they aren't. They are, hence why you need to treat them like one with zero exceptions. Nothing wrong with VARs, they are important. But never, ever call them something else, as that leads to horrible things.

That's neither here nor there. They don't know enough about SQL to know that it needs to be treated as a valuable workload, nor do they represent your interests.
A VAR means that they have technical or some special abilities that makes them more than a simple reseller or store. VAR implies technical support specialties. But no amount of VAR expertise ever, ever, ever means you can think of them as anything but a vendor representative, they are never your representative.
In reality, a typical VAR will have way more expertise on something than an MSP. MSPs most typically are very non-technical and handle low end helpdesk most of the time. Nothing wrong there, but that's how they are. VARs tend to be highly focused on teh products that they sell, so often have a lot of really focused expertise.

You just highlighted all of the problems and how they are a VAR, but didn't realize it.
All they care about is selling you something. They are willing to make a recommendation, like Nimble, only within the scope of selling you something you don't need and is in no way okay for you to even consider. They are happy to screw you in many ways. Exactly a VAR, all they care about is making their money. What they aren't happy to do is recommend something legitimate for your needs or do IT consulting. They are sales people out to screw you, which you stated, but in a way that makes it sound like you didn't realize this.

This one might seem crazy, but even in some first world countries this is how things work and people are pretty surprised and confused to learn that Americans universally flush any paper products at all.
