So, I'm attempting to install an OS, and use a USB as a virtual drive, to install the OS to. I tried to enable it in the BIOS, but nowhere in the BIOS could I find an option to enable Virtual Drive support or any such thing. Help, anybody? The server I'm attempting to install this on is a Dell PowerEdge R510.

Here is someone having an issue with that....

But they never resolved it, they just had a flaky detection problem.

It sees the USB, it just tells me that "This Device Does Not Support Virtual Drives" and then it tells me that it may just be turned off in the BIOS.

If you do the BIOS F2 setup option, you can opt to disable UEFI. Maybe that would fix it?

@scottalanmiller Haha, funny story... The server now locks up when trying to enter that part of the UEFI. Tried 3 times.

Each one of those three times was with a full system Reset.

Not what I meant - time to reset the BIOS/UEFI, not just a system reboot - aka default all values and start over.

That's not a bad idea. Was it fully updated before?

Hate to ask this question because I have heard horror stories, but is your bios/server firmware at the most current version? I've seen in the past where updating has fixed odd bios issues.

Edit: @scottalanmiller beat me to it.

You could try that, but no - normally in the BIOS you have an option to 'set default settings' this will remove any changes you've made, then you reboot and start over tweeking the BIOS.

I might have to, I can't access the BIOS and the UEFI has now "Died", so I'm not sure what else to do.

Outdated BIOS could easily be the issue.
