Scouts honor. I have seen this happen. Was too creepy IMHO to be a coincidence.

      Tinfoil hats not required

Some Facebook users have said that Facebook did more than just collect metadata from messages. Multiple individuals recounted to Ars occasions when they had the content of text message conversations nearly immediately affect advertisements they were shown on Facebook. These users say they saw ads that were specific to locations or services that were discussed via SMS, but those subjects were never the focus of Facebook posts or other Facebook content.

I saw a video on YT about this.. some people had test conversations about vague subjects near their phone with the facebook app out, and then a little bit later, they noticed adds coming up on FB.

People have been saying this for years - the main thing I recall was people talking about pet food. They are just talking about it to someone.. and next thing they know - they see ads for it.

Of course, until now, everyone just blew it off as coincidence.

My wife swears that her Facebook app hears her talking.

For anyone interested, I use an app called FaceSlim that is sandbox wrapper around facebook, but still lets you use features like messenger and completely blocks all ads.

I didn't have a choice when I de-Googlized, and I have honestly never been happier getting off Google and Facebook 100%.

@popester I also know people who have experienced this. It's absolutely creepy.

Mark Z. initial stance on privacy at Facebook is a comical viewing.

Considering his about-face about a year later (starts at 2:30 into this one)

I dont use FB anymore, not in many years. I got a new phone recently; I find it interesting that you cant actually remove the FB app from newer phones.
All i can do on my MotoE4 is disable it. Every other application on the phone can be uninstalled.

That's got to be an issue with your carrier image. Android and iOS will let you remove it, and don't have it by default.

Not to self, avoid Moto phones! Damn that's horrible.

Oh wait, that's a Lenovo product. That would explain why there is spyware that can't be removed. That totally mimics everything we know about Lenovo. Honestly, FB is the least of your worries there.
