clear linux, how to run as vm?
-
2 separate hypervisors, 2 different download images(Live and installer only), a dozen attempts at getting it to even boot the iso. Nothing, no boot device found every single time.
-
Have you follow their Install Clear Linux in a VM guide?
-
Which hypervisors are you using? KVM looks pretty straightforward.
-
I've never used Clear Linux, but coincidentally was looking into downloading it about an hour ago!
-
Once you get this installed, want to test Sodium on it
-
The only reason i am interested is that in just about all benchmarks it is the Clear winner. But if i cant just boot an iso image and install it, that kind of makes it worthless.

The instructions that I've read is using a pre-built image when running as a VM.

Do they have a pre-built image for KVM or XEN?

This.
The entire clear linux image, comes pre-built for you. On a set of specific hypervisors. None of their images or instructions say "build it yourself".

It's a very special case OS.

KVM.

They have a generic image. Looking at it right now. In fact they have 2, an installer only and Live.
Neither boot in virtualbox or XS. I dont use esxi or hyperv. My kvm test hosts are off until a new ups gets here in a couple days. -

Here's a list of what is available.

Does Clear Linux only work on Intel Architecture?
-
Not worth the time, if it doesnt boot off an iso image without customization, bye bye. So bye, clear.

That is the focus of it, yes. Intel Architecture driven.

Nope, it works well with AMD. Phoronix has a benchmarking article, it smokes all other distros with AMD Epycs/Ryzen.

Actually, it only works on AMD64. It doesn't run on IA64 at all. Intel likes to call AMD64 "Intel Architecture" to confuse customers. But the only current Intel Architectures are IA32 (low end Atom chips) and IA64 (Itanium that is about to be discontinued.) All systems you know of from AMD or Intel are AMD64.

I just noticed on each page for setting it up, put a lot effort into repeating it over and over again.
