Yeah, when you use your email servers instead of Spiceworks Email Servers.

SW has email servers? When did that happen? How do you use them?

Yes. Like forever ago. No idea as I don't use SW.

I haven't seen any email configuration setup before using their servers. . . why would anyone want to use their email servers, over say your own. . .

What MitM crap are they attempting to pull?

There is no option on the SW server we are managing to do that. Definitely not obvious anywhere.

You can use Spiceworks to send the alerts through their servers instead of yours, it has been for a long time. See below:

How do you know? 🙂 They could have a system in place that records every ticket, anonymizes it from which they create a sales deck to pull in more money.

I've seen some of the collected data that they shared on accident, it was definitely not anonymized.

SW has email servers? When did that happen? How do you use them?

You can use Spiceworks to send the alerts through their servers instead of yours, it has been for a long time. See below:

I see no settings like this. Where are they located?

Go to Settings, Inventory, Monitors & Alerts and scroll down.

Bwahahaha. So it is. And guess what, it's already sending through them.

Now, go to Settings, Inventory and select Email Settings, what do you have there?

I haven't seen any email configuration setup before using their servers. . . why would anyone want to use their email servers, over say your own. . .

What MitM crap are they attempting to pull?

There is no MiTM on the system...

Man in the middle. . . IE are they browsing all emails and creating a sales deck with the information they collect.

I think they would have set up a "Marketer in the Middle" attack....

basically, they had no clue and after a year of testing, got nowhere.
