Adding additional Drive to XenServer host, get error
-
@scottalanmiller it's my old server. It works fine, not the greatest lol but works. Battery back up is in place. Cache and flash you already know the answer.
Are there any RAID Cards that are more modern that will fit the old server? Non Dell Perc obviously.
-
Scott I eventually just wiped it and started fresh but I learned a lot. At home I have been spending more time on the CLI with XenServer, no so much @ work as I only have 1 Raid array and normally don 't have to deal with CLI as much.
What I eventually did was nuked the raid, started fresh, changed it to a RAID 0 (for giggles), reinstalled XS. XS is installed to a 64 GB

At least it is working now.

Sure, pretty much any should work.

This is where I'm a noob at. I obviously trust the OEM/Included RAID card (even though they are rebranded). I don't know a staple RAID card to choose other than that any suggestions?

Perc H700 Raid Cards.
-
@black3dynamite correct me if I'm wrong, a Perc H700 won't work on a Dell Power Edge T110 i. Considering it is in same generation, I dunno but that would be basically stepping backwards, not forward.
-
I was told a few days ago the Dell R710 that comes with the H700 has craptacular performance issues with SSD. In my production servers I use H730's so I know and stand by them
But for my test server I dunno if it would work

#nooblevelAll older controllers are pretty bad with SSD. SSD requires so much more performance than controllers used to have.
-
@scottalanmiller You know a good staple controller you could suggest?

To control staple guns? Like a staple gun wielding robot?

Autocowreck is not your friend today -- get to feeling better!

@scottalanmiller im back in the office today. Good thing the power transformer appears to be successfully online from Alabama Power (it's ungodly huge). Hoping this week things will return to normal.

For the most part the server is working fine! I'm actually gonna nuke it soon so I can re-attempt Hyper-V 2016 then KVM.

When you do setup KVM, I would look into virt-builder. You can get a Linux VM setup pretty quickly. The only thing to be aware of is that those builds don't use LVM. Not a big issue if you are using them as s stateless VM OS and have a second virtual disk for your data.
