FYI based on the ultrasound (not at 20 weeks yet so hasn't been confirmed) it looks like we're having a baby girl!

Schools close at the drop of a hat anymore. Too afraid of lawsuits.

        Not around here.

In our highschool (that @Minion-Queen and I went to) we had a few students die because they didn't close the school when obviously they needed to and there was no safe way to get to school from even right across the street, even on foot... but they still kept not closing them.

I would rather them close at the drop of a hat than not at all when they should. Safety should come first.

I don't really understand why there are physical schools at all, for the most part. The entire idea is antiquated.

Because parents need babysitters so they can work.

        Here-here.

        Soon to be a dad.

        congrats!

Old news around these parts, I announced the ultrasound a few weeks ago.

        But thanks!

This is what happens when my own family drama takes over life.

Oh I get it totally. (we homeschooled but I get the needing your child to have a place to be).

Sounds reasonable but school doesn't go long enough for hardly anyone to get to and from a job.

That is just stupid and causes more problems.

Proper policies and sticking to them is the correct approach.

When the kids are younger and need a lot more supervision I see the need of taking them someplace so there would be supervision. When they are older, why not online at home all the time? My oldest stepson never fit into the school model at our local school district. He was not interested in a four-year college after school, so all the school really cared about was his attendance they never tried to help him. Maybe an online option like that would have been ideal. The school district was worried about his attendance because student attendance is tied to how much money they get. He dropped out and passed his GED in two weeks a semester before he would have graduated. He is in enrolled in welding at the local votech school and will be certified by the end of the summer. He will be making good money before most of the students in the district even start their college degrees.

Honestly, in most schools in America, the ways we teach at the core hasn't really changed that much. There is a teacher in a large classroom lecturing. Most technology has just enhanced the lecture. Students go from class to class and take notes. Sure they might type the notes into a laptop or use a tablet but it is still taking notes. They are still doing the same process. I would bet that if you took a student from the 1960's or 1950's and dropped them into a school today, it wouldn't take them more than a month to be fully up on the technology. I even bet they could probably outperform most of today students in Math.

There have been suggestions about having an "online" congress, where the reps would stay in their districts with their constituents and would all convene online when necessary.

Texas offers this already to all students. It's not mandatory of course. But it is a state-wide option. Few (if any) other states have that. TX has had it for a while.

You're talking about K2 schools. Kids graduate through Huntsville ISD, I believe, but only starts at the 3rd grade. So those K-2 would have to go to public school first before going to K2.

Solitaire and Reversi both came with Windows 3.0. Oh, and Minesweeper - I guess it was around Windows 3.1, maybe earlier. Remember "3D Pinball" which came with Windows 95? And I had to uninstall Minecraft and Microsoft Solitaire Collection last week from a fresh Windows 10 install.

I don't know what may be the purpose, they are probably just there to keep us admins on track
