How can we add custom time to the helpdesk?
Right now those are the only options I see in minutes. This part I can agree with, in NY at least (I assume most other states) billable time is charged in 15 minute intervals.
Having a custom time allowance doesn't make sense IMO.
Billable - meaning to your employer.
You don't track time in billable time to your employer, though. That means nothing.
When you "punch a clock", you're required to punch in 15 minute intervals. None of this 5:33PM clock out bs (and expecting to be paid for work until 5:45 PM. You're paid for work until the nearest quarter hour.
Sure, but what does that have to do with tracking efficiency and time spent on work throughout the day?
Is the module meant for tracking efficiency or work day accountability? I view it as the "punch a clock" approach for reporting to HR/Accounting for paychecks.
It tracks the time spent on the ticket. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you think about it, imagine if you did password resets all day - if we treated it as billable, you'd be forced to only reset a password four times an hour. You'd max out at 32 password resets in a day. That's not very many, you'd have to sit around waiting to be eligible to work again after each task.

Not at all the way I'd look at it, but I get the point.
You can do a billion password resets in a 15 minute interval (and still only charge the client for those 15 minutes). If using scripts to do it.
If you want to use it as a means of I spent 3 minutes typing an email to the client asking for clarification. That's fine. I just think it is meant for more.
Maybe add a flag for "billable time" to the time tracking function.

NY actually passed a law stating you have to bill in 15 minute increments?
Sorry, I doubt that. Though it is NY.

Not a "bill your client in 15 minute increments" but you have to pay your employees on 15 minute increments.

What does paying your employees in 15 minute increments have to do with putting in tickets in 15 minute increments?
Also I still find it hard to believe that this is a NY labor law, but it wouldn't surprise me.

It was my interpretation of the function. Which I've said disregard it, already if that isn't the intended purpose.

IN NJ for example I can bill by the minute, I used to bill in 8 or 12 minutes increments.

Seems arbitrary - did you have a reason for that?
I bill clients on the 15 min, have to include the transition time they are costing me. -
