Printer replacement

Customer bought a HP Photosmart AIO 7525 and told me: printer is wacky...complains wireless is out and can't scan but then can...also using tons of ink. Client thinks they are using 1000 month in paper for copies and print.
So I am look for a business class replacement. All I need is color network printing, scanning and copying.

I LOVE My Brother MFC-9970CDW. @ajstringham did a full cost analysis against this and an HP and this one won out easily. Very easy to use and get the networking setup.

The HP Photosmarts really aren't business printers. If you're a photography studio, your printer should be using at least 8 cartridges, like the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II or Pro 100. For a business doing 1,000 pages/month, they must be replacing the 564 black twice a month! That printer takes 5 cartridges, and unless they are doing photos, it's a COMPLETE waste.
The Brother MFC-9970CDW is a phenomenal unit.

I think the drum life is 25,000 pages but it might be 30,000. Either way, it's by far one of the most cost effective color lasers on the market. Now, if you want to try something a little different, the HP OfficeJet Pro X576DW would be another excellent choice. Upfront cost is about the same as the Brother and it's actually even more efficient than the Brother. It's inkjet but not like most inkjets. Without getting into all the details, it's one of the fastest printers on the market, bar none. Over 9,000 pages/black cartridge and 4-5,000/color (mind is a bit hazy on the exact number). I know the black is rated at 9,200 pages/cartridge but whatever. Either of those would be a great option.
My personal opinion is the Brother. HP includes so much freaking bloatware with their printers, ALL their printers, now that it gets quite irritating. The Brother is a much cleaner install.

Ok, NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER!!! use non-OEM ink. EVER! You WILL BREAK your machine, get shorter cartridge lives, poorer quality, etc. Inkjets are far more sensitive to it than lasers, although remanned toners are bad news bears too.

Or just use it, most people do and pretty much never have problems. It saves money. I've never heard of someone breaking their machine.

Yes...HP has lots of crapware except for the above printer when you use the certain HP driver set, I forget the name.

Little confused by how the P2035 is both the best and the only HP B/W printer you've seen...
The 2035 is a fairly popular model, but to be perfectly honest, it's not very good compared to most Brother products. They cost ~$230 if you get them on sale, which for the same price, you can get the Brother HL-5450DN, so you now duplexing, which you don't normally get until you go to the 2055 model, and you have a toner that yields 8,000 pages/toner, which is more than twice what you get out of the 2035 model toners, and at a lower price. In terms of lasers, Brother has the SMB market cornered. They don't have the enterprise management software companies like Xerox and Ricoh have. They also don't have large, enterprise MFP units. They just don't make them. But the 2035/2055 models are not very good IMHO.

What issues have you seen with third party ink? I know that it is rarely of the same quality, but it generally saves a lot of money. I have not seen anyone have printers hurt by it.

The mistake a lot of businesses make is they don't do their homework. Staples sells the MFC-9970CDW, for example, but online only. So you order it and have it a couple days later. But a lot of SMBs won't buy it if they can't see it in the store first, which with the better units isn't something that will happen.

Third-party ink is lower quality, shorter life AND is almost always put into remanned cartridges, which will ruin your printer almost 50% of the time. Maybe not the first time you use them, or even the second, but it will happen. The only time you don't use OEM ink is when you're using specialty ink, like edible ink, etc.

50% of the time is pretty high. That means that every other cartridge ruins your printer. That seems high given the high rate of use of remanued cartridges and the low rate of failure.

We used to use third-party ink here. I had two leaks. It didn't destroy the printer, but it was a bit of a pain (and expense) to sort out. After the second time, I banned the use of them. I've never had HP ink cause a problem. Any printer downtime costs us money, so it just seems like false economy. Fine for home use, but not work.
50% failure rate does seem a bit high though

It's not a 50% of cartridges. It's 50% of the time people use remanned cartridges, over the span of a year or two, it will ruin the printer, usually due to a leak. Also, most cartridges has a life on them, either by expiration or by use. So you're re-using a chip that's run it's life in a remanned cartridge. It's just bad juju...

As far as I'm concerned, either the Brother MFC-9970CDW or the HP OfficeJet Pro X576DW are your only two good options.

The HP Officejets or Epson Workforces would be the only options I can think.
