Was a signal group ever started? I am in

      Yes it was/is...
but as mentioned, the Telegram client is significantly better at this time.

It was also noted, anyone added to a group in Signal, all members received all other members phone numbers.

Interesting comparison of secure messaging apps..

      https://www.securemessagingapps.com/

So, based on that table, my preferences of messengers would be:

      1. Signal
      2. Wire
      3. Telegram

      No love for Threema?

I'm cheap. I don't like having to pay for stuff.

Threema looks the best according to that chart.

Where does it say it costs?

      0_1513614402319_Threema.PNG

It's $3 one time per platform (android or iDevices) Not that big of deal in my opinion... but it does make me ask - how is Signal funded?

You pay one time for the app. However threema is closed source and only audited by a security team they pick.

This really is the bigger deal.

            I see, that changes things.

I'd rather pay $3 for open source in a case like that.

Gizmodo says to avoid telegram. Encryption is turned off by default and weak when turned on.

OMG run for the hills. Encryption is off by default.

FFS. If I am trying to find a super secret chat app, I don't care about defaults. And if stupid users are stupid, they deserve to have their shit intercepted.

Now that second bit is the issue if I care about a secure chat app.

I use Telegram because it is convenient and multi-platform. I do not use it for security.

I do also like that, to my knowledge, I can hand out the user name I setup in Telegram (@sorvani fyi)and people will not obtain my cell#.

I do also like that if I wanted an encrypted chat, it is there. Now the quality of that encryption is up for debate, as it is not using any kind of standard cipher library to everyone's understanding.

Yeah, that's really big. A huge piece of security that makes Signal not very attractive to me. A key purpose of using stuff like this is not sharing phone numbers.

Agreed what the hell were the ting requiring that? And then not having a work around for not using them in the app?
